George,
Please be advised that 1227D is married to a charming young lady who flys a Stinson. (The lucky devil!)
Long Cross Country in a 170A

Good points on the Stinson. The Stinson is similar to the 170, but it is much better on rough turf fields than the 170, it also climbs better and is about 10 mph faster. Generally it will get there faster than the 170, mostly due to the faster climb speed to altitude. The Stinson is more solid on the ground, but it is fabric, much noiser, has little heat and the Franklin has lower TBO than the C145 and burns more gas. The Stinson is good going into rough high altitude fields especially with the 165 Franklin or 180 lycoming conversion.
So, she's a fast one and better at the "rough stuff', heh...?blueldr wrote:George,
