trip from LAS to OKC

Post by 9178A »

These pictures were taken by Gina (wife) from N9178A. One is mountain at Flagstaff, two are of the meteor crater in AZ., next is dormant volcano in NM., and the last one is of mountains in northern NM. Have a good one of Lake Mead but it is on phone and I don't know how to transfer to computer. It was a good trip cause we took our time landing in Kingman, Winslow, Alb., Tucumcari and Elk City ,Ok then OKC. about 10 hours time.

Is that sand in the bottom of the first meteor crater picture? Nice pictures it looks like it was a great day to be flying. I know if it is a Mac computer and an I phone it is easy to download but, I have never done it. My daughter knows how though. Ask someone under 30 I am sure it is possible to do. If I tried I would probably delte it. Maybe you can do a forward or send to an email and then download it from your computer that way. Good luck
It's not done till it's overdone

Ditto, Jims remarks. Pretty airplane. (Unlike many others, I find the early spring gear to be attractive in an "art deco" manner. It's mindful of early-aviation aircraft...has sort of an antique quality to it...and with practice it's handling qualities are no problem at all, IMO.

I agree with George regarding the older style spring gear. I have the older style gear on my 52 170B. I made the mistake of going to 7X6 6 ply tires - the plane never felt right. Back to 6x6 4 ply Aero Classics - the airplane feels good once again.

Didn't some 170 fly into that crater and have to circle till he ran out of fuel because he could not climb above the rim? Seems to me I saw something like that written up when we visited the site years ago. Bill K

Seems it was a 150 unless someone else has tried it recently.

Your right. Went to the NTSB site. It was blamed on unwaranted low flying by an 19000hr airline pilot. A quick look at the reports for the month shows that the old timers sure liked to bend up a lot of aluminum. Way more accidents than you see in a month today. Bill K
