iFLY 700

Post by 170C »

I just spent some time on their website and found it and the forums quite interesting. Wondering if any members have purchased one and if so how it is working out. Would this unit be a good replacement for an existing moving map GPS? With all the technical knowledge we have in our association I am sure sooner or later some of you will be able to do an evaluation of this new product and provide pro's & con's. More gizmo's for us to consider spending $$ on

Frank
I was looking at this one also and like the sectional thing but it doesn't do WX unless I missed something.

I can not comment of this unit specifically but on these types of units in general. You would think someone would put together a package of of the shelf hardware like a Ipac, Ipod touch or maybe the new Ipad and then some sort of XM weather receiver and of course tie it all together with software and updates for less money than Garmin is.

But it seems no one has everything or by the time you've included everything Garmin does your at the same price level. Anywhere Map (http://www.anywheremap.com/)comes the closest I've seen but it seems pretty tuff to bet Garmin's package.

I sure do wish someone would put together competition for Garmin.

TIC170A member Dennis Hoffman uses an iFly in his 170, and he likes it. I haven't ridden with him since he got it, so I don't have personal experience. It costs $500, and it's something like $70/year for sectional and approach chart updates. Pretty competitive!

Based on their website it would appear that they are working on adding WX & other features. Sounds like they have had several updates since the initial sales of the unit with each one making improvements. Will be interesting to see what other members know about the unit.

I think the idea of showing the aircraft on a moving sectional chart is very effective. I'd love to buy one of these, if avgas weren't so darned expensive! :(

I believe this site has info on WX works weather app for the I-phone and other smart phones. Give is a look over. I think the fee is $99.00 per year. Some day I'll be able to afford an I-phone.

George, I hope this is a legal post in your view.
