I'm considering putting floats on a 170 rag-wing. Does anyone have any experience with the performance I can expect with a low-time C145? Any hidden pit-falls?
Thanks in advance.....
Jim

First they weren't approved on floats so you better figure out how you are going to get it approved first. I had a 48 and now have a B mod on EDO 2000's there is no performance with the C-145.

I don't think that's true. The TCDS makes numerous references to landplane vs seaplane parameters, and also lists
item 209: two floats (a) Edo 89-2000 per Cessna dwg. 0541125
two floats (b) Edo 89-2000 per Cessna Dwg 0541125B

By the way,the TSDS also lists various ski's and wheel-ski's,Geisse safety gear, and Whittaker Model L-19 tandem gear!

Oops,on second look I guess I am wrong. Looks like the first Cessna dwg applies to the A model, and the second Cessna dwg applies to the B. Doesn't show anything for the ragwing. Sorry.

There have been at least three 1948 C-170's on Edo 89-2000 floats, N2554V, N4138V and N3991V. The latter was owned by Turner Aviation Company who apparently got, or tried to get, an STC for the alteration. (The one STC held by Turner Aviation Co Inc. is SA1-245 which is described as, "Lycoming O-340-A1A engine and Hartzell HC-82XL-1D/8433-12 propeller on aircraft with Edo89-2000 floats." It's for the entire 170 series aircraft). As their 337 form to put the C-170 on floats was filed prior to Oct. 1, 1955 it is considered "approved data" by the FAA, just as an STC would be. The 337 form can be seen here.
