Just got back from three glorious days camping and seeing the sites at the 49th Northwest Antique Airplane Club at McMinnville, Oregon (KMMV). The heat and the the price on Av fuel cut the attendance down somewhat from that of last year but still a lot of fine aircraft to look at and super nice people to chat with. There was a showing of about 6 170's. Not to brag but my plane took first place in class for post war aircraft from 1945 to 1957. It was a beautiful trophy. There were two highlights worth mentioning. The first was the Saturday night dinner held at the new Air and Space facilities at the Evergreen Air Museum. The dinner started at 6:30 and afterwards folks were allowed to wonder around the new facilities for free and also over to the older section where the Hughes flying boat is now hangared (Spruce Goose). The organization provided shuttle service over to the museum and also into town. The second neat thing was a pyrotectic display just after dark last night. This was done by a parapalegic Ultralight pilot from Nevada. It was done to music and how he set off all those fireworks is beyond me but it was a sight to behold.
Next year will be the 50th anniversary and should be an awesome event - so plan ahead.

Congratulations on the first place trophy Sounds like it was an enjoyable outing. Getting out to see the "Spruce" is on my list of Must Do things.

Here is the full length photo - camping was awesome - toilet facitlites were plentiful and there are a permanent men's and women's showers near the FBO. A visit to the nearby town of McMinville is pleasant - wine, hazelnuts, cranberries of all varieties are available
