59 Charlie is back

Post by bsdunek »

Just thought I'd announce, that after 12 years of sitting in the barn, 59 Charlie is flying again.
Unfortunately 12 years with out enough care left some pitting in the aluminum, so I couldn't go with the polished scheme again. I had Danny King at Sturgis Aviation, Sturgis, MI remove and treat the corrosion, and apply a new paint job using Sherwin-Williams Jet-Glo. If you're looking for a paint job, Danny is a great guy. The plane is disassembled for painting, then re-assembled using all new fasteners. Stainless steel screws are used for all the exterior panels. New rubber moldings are also installed.
Now, when the bank account recovers, I'll be looking at some updated avonics.

Reilly, my Corgi, approves, and is ready to do some flying!

Congratulations Bruce!

My longest downtime was 3 years, and I know how good it felt to get '98C going again. I can't imagine how good you must feel after 12 years. I won't be so bold as to ask how much the paint job set you back, but I am curious as to how long it took.

Miles

PS: I have in-laws less than a half hour from you (Pinckney/Dexter area). If you don't mind, the next time I'm up that way I'll check in and see just how good a job Danny really did.

They had the plane for two months, however, I told them time was not an object.

Let me know when you are in Michigan. We're only about five miles from Pinckney. We can look at the paint job and more. 8)

she was really a nice dog.
unfortunately, she hurt her back,
so had to have her put to sleep about 5 years ago.
