Need Oil Filler Cap and Gasket part number for O-300a

Post by pdb »

Gentlemen:

I lost my oil filler cap in flight yesterday. What a mess. I only lost about 1qt but it looks like 2 gallons when cleaning it up.

Does anyone know the correct part number of the replacement. A friend gave me two:

631754 or 640620-2

but neither seems to turn up in the search engines for the parts suppliers and I don't have a part catalog for the engine.

Thanks

640620-2 is the PN listed in the TCM IPC. Try EnParts in Lancaster, TX for salvage cap. 660 Ferris Rd # 102, Lancaster, TX 75146
(972) 227-0086

(List from Cessna is $100.)

They (P/N 640620-2) are available at Hill Aircraft http://www.cessnaparts.com/ for the reduced price of $90 . 8O Seems like a standard part from any old Ford or Chevy.

Karl, should we tell him about the Spruce PN FC-2646 for $8.80 or should we keep that amongst ourselves? (Since I've only heard of it's use for such purpose and not tried it myself and since it claims to be for fuel...)

This is exactly what I'm using, since I lost my cap last year. Sanded off the black paint, painted it yellow, added some lettering to show the 8 quart capacity, and added a chain. This one looks fine, and won't get lost. (The one I lost looked exactly like it.)

If any of you guys know of anyone who has bought one of those $90 plus oil caps, I wish you would send me their name. I am privy to some excellent waterfront property they might be interested in.

pdb,

When you get a replacement oil cap, be sure you install it on a sink stopper type chain.

Oh no, no, no --- we don't want him to say he heard something like that from this forum.

Pete,

When you get a new cap, rivet a lenght of bathtub stopper chain to it and fasten it to the filler neck with an Adel clamp.

Please be advised that anchoring the cap to the airplane will not make the clean up any easier if you fail to reinstall it after adding oil..
