So has anyone done this or know anyone who has? I saw on anouther thread that some thought the L-19 gear was about 3 inches longer, that sounds even better than the 1 1/2 you get from the 180 legs. Looking at increaseing 80" prop clearance on skis and a little steeper take off angle.

Does anone know the numbers for the L-19 gear?

Gear Part# Lenth* Thickness Rake
Lady Legs 0541118-2/3 34.5" ~11/16" aft
Early 180 0741001-1/2 36" ~11/16" aft
L-19 O1A 0641100-1/2 ?? ?? ??
L-19 All 1041100-1/2 ?? ?? ??

*the inside dimension from the center of the upper bend to the narrow end
I didn't see any thing in FAA STC data base anyone seen a 337?
Just anouther topic for discussion.

I have a set of L-19 gear legs, Also a set of 55170B and 180legs. The L-19 legs are about the same as 180 but with a little different tapper at the bottom. They are not 3 inches longer than 170. ***

I believe Billy Ahlstrom has L-19 gear on his highly modified '48 170. I don't think he posts very often, but you can look him up in the 170 directory.

Hello Squaretail, do you still have a pair of L19 gear legs for sale? Are they light or heavy?

The L-19 gear does not work, the upper bend,(into the fuselage) is bent at a flatter angle because the fuselage is narrower at the gear box area, this also makes the lower bend also flatter.

Installed on the C-170 makes the gear track 100" apart, I went through this when I converted my 1956 C-172 to tail dragger.

An unscrupulous SOB sold me the gear as C-170 Lady legs, $1800.00 shot to hell! They look similar but the upper bends and lower bends are different.

Look up some of my previous posts about wheel track widths.
