The International Cessna 170 Association

Would anyone know the difference between the rudders? I know part numbers are different 0633000 and 0533000, also bellcrank is different.

I know the A is different than a B but sorry not sure about those two models being equal.

The '48 will be the same as an A which is different than the B and the L-19. The major difference being the opening area around where the elevator control tube passes from one elevator to the other. I discovered and looked at this a while back and wrote about it on the forum. At the moment can't remember if I determined all riders could be physically used on all models and would have to refer back to that thread. I'll se if I can find the thread.

I have two lights in my rudder, I have only seen this on one L-19, never on another 170. Anyone know why?

The L19/O1 aircraft had two lights in the rudder, one for navigation, the other for formation/recognition lighting.

I once lost a friend who was killed when an F-111 rear-ended him over Bryce Canyon at-night. The F-111 thought it was forming up with a refueling tanker...but was actually looking at the lights of Rocko's Aero Commander who was talking to ATC at the moment.

Rocko and his wife (with two little boys) had just put their marriage back together and he'd taken a new job with Montana Power/Light.

My C-195 has two tail lights on the rudder. I always wondered why there were two, possibly came off of a LC-126/military 195?

On my plane, one is a nav light and the other is now a strobe.

On the Rocko collision, what was the F-111 going to do if there had been a tanker there instead of the Turbo Commander, run into it?

Probably! The WSO repeatedly told the pilot he was closing too fast. (Another lesson to learn from this is not to cruise near IFR altitudes if VFR, even if expecting an IFR clearance momentarily. When IFR, FL180 is also a bad altitude to accept, as VFR airplanes can legally be just a few feet away and be talking to no one.)
