Following is an email I received today. I would love TruTrak to develop an STC for 170s, but haven't convinced them there are enough 170 owners interested. Read the email below and then write to Lucas and tell him you are interested!

Thanks,
Paul

Hello again!

New information is developing a much quicker pace now so you should be receiving updates more often now. EAA is really working hard to help us bring this equipment to you as quickly as possible. We have a few new things to mention this time around.

First, I want to drop that we’re currently looking at a C177 that’s here at our facility. Before it leaves, we’ll have a servo installation designed for it. This should allow us to include the 177 into the initial release offering along with the 172 and (hopefully) 182. Our initial look at a couple of 182 models has shown us that there may have to be a few different kits depending on model.

Next, we expect to be able to sell install kits for at least the 172 at Sun n Fun. Kits for other planes may be available, too, but we don’t know at this exact time. These kits will cover all the 172 models AFTER the F model. The pitch install is different in F and prior so right now we’ll be looking at only G model and later aircraft availability.

Just like last time, if you know anyone with ANY standard category aircraft that is interested in a Trutrak autopilot, please have them email me. The more information we have regarding interest, the better we can direct our resources to adding other models to the STC availability. We’ll be back soon with even more information. Thanks again!

Sincerely,

I love to see competition.

Those guys are working on an autopilot for the 172 as well and then will pick up other aircraft.

Thanks Paul. I'm sure Garmin and Dynon will follow. Lots of good things happening in General Aviation lately.

I bought a 170 to FLY. If I wanted someone else to fly it I'd sell it.

Very good news for those of us that don't want to fly our airplanes.

Quized the Tru Trak guys at SNF and they tell me the unit will be available for early 172's in due time (whatever that means). I would "guess" they would get the stc for 170's as well. Cost estimate they gave me was under $7,000 installed.

For those who want George to fly here’s your chance to make it happen.

I have to say that I agree, why would I want an autopilot? Maybe to add a bit of weight and complexity?

Well, I love flying 'em as well but having George along on cross country flights and the occasional light IFR ride would be awesome :)
