Just sold a scooter and want to buy a climb prop, I've read the pros vs cons. I have a 1400 ft strip with 30 ft obstacles on each end so I want every advantage I can muster. I'm running an O-300 with a 7652 prop now. I have a 170 B with a Sportsman STOL kit and VG's . Which one is best in the 80" swing 40, 42, or 43" ??? OOW

I fly out of a 650' strip with trees at both ends and my 8043 works wonders.

My prop started out life as an 8040 and the former owner repitched to 8042 which I still have. He reported almost no increase in cruise (still slow) and negligible difference in climb (still the best you can hope for in a 170.)

I run an 80/42. Still able to see 95Kts cruise, but increased climb by 30%. If you are making it in and out with your 76, Then I think you would be happy with the 80/42. 80/40 might be too far to go for you.

The STC for the 80/40 prop is available from Kenmore Air Harbor in Seattle.

The prop is a McCauley available through their dealers and probably from the usual suspects like Aircraft Spruce.

I installed an 80/42 on my 170 a couple years ago. I believe the STC from Kenmore was $200.
