New cylinder recommendations??
Well, after the Nebraska to SoCal cross country trip in Nov, the C-145 developed a tick in one of the cylinders. Upon investigation, we pulled the #5 cylinder to find a flat lifter and a slightly scored cylinder with a stuck oil ring. So, we're calling a couple shops in the SoCal area tomorrow morning but I am leaning toward a new cylinder. Bummer is, low time engine (under 300 hrs).
That said, What cylinders are folks using these days. Looking at Titan and Superior. Not having any experience in this area, I'd appreciate hearing what others are using on their C-145/O-300 theses days.
Thanks, Chris.

My personal choice of those two... Superior.
No gimmicks in their processes. Good reputation and value.
J & J in Pleasanton, TX can ship overnite and they'll have the rings already end-gapped, all you have to do is pull the piston down far enough to install the new (included) wristpin, and stab 'er onto the engine.

We use Superior exclusively, never had any problems and very price competitive also . Superior reinvented the wheel ,which made their engines even better.

I use ECI standard steel, never a problem, they are the only ones that have a exhaust valve rotator that has proven to stop the exhaust valve problems.
Re: New cylinder recommendations??
Second vote for ECI. I put six new steel cylinders on a hundred and fifty hours ago, perfect compression and bore scope.
Good luck!
Good luck!
Re: New cylinder recommendations??
Overhauled my O300C engine almost 3 years ago with ECI nicad cylinders and now with almost 300 hours on them I have had no problems at all.
Keep your speed up, Blackhawk on final behind you.
Re: New cylinder recommendations??
i am working on some hours after 1 cylinder out of 6 failed last year @ 76 hrs. Reg steel cylinders, no coatings.

Re: New cylinder recommendations??
I have had very good service from a set of Superior cylinders and they would be my first choice again.

Re: New cylinder recommendations??
Thanks for the replies everyone! I ordered a Superior cylinder from J&J (they had it in stock) and it'll be here tomorrow. Hopefully by tomorrow night, the plane will be flyin again....without all that noise in front!
On a better note, flew the Stearman this morning after ordering the cylinder and flew in a FA-18F Hornet this afternoon! Nothing like hittin both sides of aviation history in one day
