Comment period on medical exemption for ALL pilots

Post by marathonrunner »

There is a comment period about to close on July 2. It is for exempting the third class medical and letting the pilot self certify. There will be some education involved to take but, if you can have a valid drivers license you can self certify.

This new rule will apply to aircraft of 180 h.p. or less and 4 seats or less. One caveat is that you can only take one passenger. AOPA and EAA have worked hard to get this in and the FAA gave a very short comment period. You can comment by going to http://www.regulations.gov and the docket number is 2012-0350-1868.

Again all comments must be received by July 2, just a few weeks away.

The AOPA/EAA request for exemption of the Third Class medical is not for Sport Pilots. (I've adjusted the title of the thread) .

It is a request for exemption for all rated pilots to do certain types of flying without having to have a Third Class medical but just a drivers license.

Here is a link directly to the site to make your comment.

Here is a link to the AOPA page which gives pointers what kind of info and comments to include in your comment to make it more compelling to the FAA.

Is it possible that our TIC170A forum moderators could set up a blank email page for these comments so that we non computer literate fearless aviators could write our comment and then just click on "Send" to get it on it's way to the proper address?

Is this important enough to justify something like that?

BL your wonderful moderators have already done that.

Click on this link ==>> http://www.regulations.gov/#!documentDe ... -0350-0001

or the one I already provided and it will take you to this page

The image above is of the actual page you should get when clicking the link in this post above.

Once there click on that blue COMMENT button on the upper right of the page. You will then be directed to another page where you enter your identity info and your comment. After doing this clicking the blue SUBMIT button sends your comments to the FAA.

Aren't we moderators great.

Wow
Way to go Bruce. That makes it a lot easier. I also had a bit of a time getting to the link to post my comment. It kept saying it could not be loaded and I finally had to type the exact number in their search mode.

I hope everyone posts a comment there. They did not give the usual 30 or 60 day comment period. Maybe if anyone is in another group they should let them know about this too. We need to flood them with comments in support of this long needed exemption

Bruce
You have to click on the link you provided to get to their home page. The other one is just a snapshot and you cannot do anything from there. Everyone will still have to type in the document number in the search part of their website to comment

Again thanks

Bruce,
Your link to the page with 10,000 questions doesn't do a thing for me, but thanks for trying.

Well, with some extra guidance from marathonrunner, Joel, I have hopefully forwarded my comment on this very important matter. As a long time pilot, ( Got my commercial 68 years ago) I have, for many years, considered the third class medical kind of worthless from the standpoint of safety for the general public.
When I was flying for the airline, one of our captains died quietly sitting alongside of the driver on the Checker Stretchout crew bus between the hotel and Idlewild Airport. He was about a month into a fresh Class One. So much for physicals.

Just a reminder for those who may not have sent in their comments on this important subject, the deadline is about two weeks away. EAA reported that the FAA has received about 3000 comments. MORE ARE NEEDED to help convince the FAA to adopt the AOPA/EAA proposal to eliminate third class medicals. This proposal does have limitations, but for a lot of current and future pilots it opens a potential door for continued flying priviledges. So if you want to help get this passed, please send in your comments.

The comment period ends July 2. They (FAA)did not give the usual time for comments. If you have not yet commented please do.
