Best Pricing on Items

Post by Romeo Tango »

Good day - I read through the forums and found a large list of "suggested vendors", that's extremely helpful, thank you.

As part of taking delivery on my C170, I'm having a few items added, and wanted to know if I am getting the best prices around. I've searched far and wide, and here's what I've found (these are all for new items):

Scott 3200A Tailwheel - $998
Jasco 6560T Alternator - $920
Hooker Harness - $175/each (direct from Hooker)

From looking at the STCs it appears that there are other valid/viable Alternators, but I cannot find any specifically listed as being for the C170. Guidance appreciated.

That price for the Scott t/w ass'bly seems high. I believe I just saw ad ad from Spruce or somebody that listed the 3200 at around $600 or a bit more. I have a Feb 2003 TAP here at home with a Spruce ad listing the 3200 at $550.Not familiar with the 3200A--is that a 3200 with the 3214T (turned up) steering arms?
Alternator kit price seems like it might be kinda high too. Harness price looks to be about right, though.

Last time I checked, Sacramento Skyranch had Scott 3200
tailwheels for around $540. Per other posts on this subject,
you could buy a 3200A for about the same price (already
comes with the more desireable up-turned steering horn....
forget the part #.... wanna say it's a 3214 or 3215T).

Prices have gone WAY up in the last 6 months. 3200's used to go for around $530.00. Last week the best price I could find was $755.00 at Chief.

Check out the junk yards and get a Cessna (Ford) alternator and regulator. You can buy a core and have it rebuilt for less than that quoted price. Be sure you get the drive gear with it.
