don't know if you've bought the 180 yet but your questions are best posted on the 180/185 maillist, it probably gets the most 180 traffic.

if it were me looking I'd be shying away from anything w/ an A or J engine, or discount it very heavily. Almost everybody upgrades to an K,L,R when it comes time for an engine, which could involve mount, exhaust, cowling, & prop issues. Like a 180hp 170, it's cheaper to buy one already done.

also, I'm sure you're aware that the tailwheel steering was much improved with the '56 model, simiilar to the 170 change in '55.
