Lubing Control Yoke Tubes

Post by Robert Eilers »

I am looking for recommendations on how best to lubricate the control tubes. My pilot side yoke tube is squeaking.

Assuming an inspection reveals nothing wrong with the parts involved...

The 170A owner's manual recommends lubricating the universal (if unsealed) and control column ball with general purpose light machine oil.

I sprayed some silicone on a rag and wiped down the tubes.
It has lasted a long time, and leaves no residue to collect dust.

I use teflon spray. Both that and silicone won't attract dust and dirt and won't get your clothes dirty. That's the problem with oils.

I've found using paste wax works well. It's dry, does not collect dust, etc., is simple and easy to apply/reapply, and lasts quite awhile.

A little ACF50 on a rag, then a forceful wipedown/polish.
