I could hardly stand it so I swiped the image and made a 170 out of it by removing nose gear and repositioning the mains. Of course we put the nicer 8:00x6 on it and added the strobe to cap it off. We spent about 4 hours trying to rev up the engine but decided what I have was the best illusion.

And Dave if you want to send me the necessary info I'll fix the web site.

You're gettin' pretty good about makin' a 170 out of a collection of parts. (Nice job.)

The plane is in annual and needs tires. I put Goodyear Flight Custom III on just two annuals ago and have about 200 hours and maybe that many landings. Not being one that goes out for an afternoon of touch and goes, I am surprise to see one totally slick and the other worn badly on the out side. Should I be getting more out of my tires? And what tires should I buy?

Curtis, if you're getting uneven wear such as you mention, you might look at your landing gear/wheel alignment. It sounds as if your have an out of alignment problem. (Do a search routine, and you'll see lots of discussion on this. The 100 series service manual discusses it also.)

Quick little story, when I bought my 170 a few years back the tires had some tread left on the tires. after a few dozen landings later I brought the airplane into my buddys hanger to start the annual. Looking over the tires one was smooth and the other just about shot, I couldnt belive the tires worn that rapidly. I later found out thankfully during the annual that the owner replaced the axles, when I asked if he put the shims back in there proper orientation he said shims? So a day on grease plates and 180 dollars in shims a new set of michelin aviators, I just rotated the tires on the rims after about 900 50/50 landings (turf/asph).

Just a side note, since the alignment its been a pleasure to takeoff and land.
