I like a shot of WD40 for these purposes.

WD40 has it's uses, but the life span on a metal surface is realitively short. I've had wire connections that I put vaseline on then covered with a loose sleeve submerged in salt water for days or weeks and would still carry electrical current. (A bilge pump comes to mind) Then after the water was pumped off and the connection checked it was like new, and stayed that way after being in the air again. A few years later had the same problem and the connection is still good. I suspect some of the special non conducting electrical greases are just vaseline with a color added and the price raised many times over.
