So Cal Flabob (KRIR) Low and Slow Fly-In May 10-12

Post by darhymes »

It's time for another Low and Slow Fly-In! This is one of my favorite annual fly-ins to attend. There are always at least a couple 170's that show up (mine included), so fly in with your 170 and join us for the fun!

This is an entire weekend event and camping is encouraged. Drop in anytime!

RSVP at: lowandslowflyin24@gmail.com
Contact me or Jim O'Brien for more info

If you haven't been to RIR, you definitely want to go. I based an ol D35 Bonanza out of there while in the Air Force during the 1986 to 1989 time frame. Names like Ed Marquart, Bill Turner, Lou Stolp and Ray Stits were all there, along with all kinds of historic aircraft from the golden age of air racing. This airport has a legacy worth reading up on and visiting. I wish I could be there; you all have a great time!

I used to use Flabob as the "final exam" for my students. If they could land on that runway (25+ years ago it was in pretty poor shape with grass encroaching on the centerline in several places) with a gusting Santa Ana wind, they could probably handle a crosswind just about anywhere. The runway is much better now but the winds are still a challenge!

We will miss you at the fly-in, Karl. I've had quite a few Association members RSVP so far. There is plenty of room for more planes (especialy if they are 170s) if anyone else wants to join in the fun!
