Re: iPad plus Paper Sectional Charts
John, the reason for the distance between Fort Worth & Dallas is that Fort Worth is "Where The West Begins" and Dallas is where the east peters out!

John-
If you fly across the DFW area at night now, there is not a dark spot in 60 miles east-west and 25 miles north-south. Oh, the humanity!

The older I get, the less patience I have with non-intuitive software. Also, I’m hard over in the you-get-what-you-pay-for camp, so a few tenths of an AMU per year for Foreflight is well worth it to me.

Same here Miles. I like things that make common sense and are easy to operate, as with Foreflight. This brings to mind McDonald's and their new "kiosks" for ordering your meal. I always bypass that and walk up to an actual person. Almost always I can order, get my meal, sit down and sometimes finish eating and the person I walked past at the kiosk is still standing there looking at it like a cow looking at a new gate. They are not very intuitive and don't get you where you want to be, unlike Foreflight.

Spicewood was on the AUSTIN Sectional. Yes... there was a separate Austin Sectional, and I have a 1960's copy somewhere.... about six airports used to be located in places that expensive neighborhoods now exist in "downtown" Austin.johneeb wrote:I can't find Spicewood on that map and when did they move Ft. With ForeFlight you get notices like this in real time:

Re: iPad plus Paper Sectional Charts
I wish I had saved all my old sectionals along the way with the course lines, notes, and secret landing spots penciled in. They all went away because I never bought a new one until the old ones were completely worn out and ripped at the folds.
I now use Foreflight and am thoroughly satisfied with it, it does everything I need. It draws the course lines for me and does all the calculating which is very nice. But it's not quite as satisfying when I get to a destination as it used to be with just a chart, watch, and compass.

Re: iPad plus Paper Sectional Charts
I use fore-flight but I also have to have the sectional open at the same time otherwise I get very uncomfortable. It also seems I'm supporting the paper effort as I can't seem to fold them properly no matter how hard I try. This annoys me I but often a quick glance at the number of holes gives me an idea as to whether the map might be TX'd.
