I checked today and the sprockets are 15/64 which if the engines will top out at 20,000rpm, yields 150.96mph. Don't know if I will ever open it up but I plan on taking it right up to my "OH SH#T" limit.
It was very fortunate to find the original builder still interested in working on his products after all these years. Plus, he either has or knows where to get any and all of the parts needed for the job. That would be the impossible part for me. It sure came out nice.

They must sweep those tracks with a toothbrush, even dust could crash a bike in a turn like that. I have a lot of respect for anyone who would put themselves in that position. I question their sanity but respect them none the less.

The Lord invented motorcycles, there're the quickest way to convert an atheist . Been riding since I was 13. Loved the older bikes, I love the newer machines for their safety and responsiveness. Haven't found a better fitting machine than my present 125HP BMW. Thought of getting a newer 175HP bike but I just don't have the same mind speed and reflexes anymore. Thinking I'll hopefully be go down the same road, in the same fashio, as BL .

More engine porn, so long ago I rebuilt this guy twice. A real education in patience and precision, it only comes into time (because of odd number of teeth on lay and vertical shaft gears) once every 16 revolutions and each combustion chamber volume is set using a graduated burette.

The variable in volume are due to casting differences in both the heads and the pistons and also very hard to cut valve pockets exactly the same from one piston to the next. We did do Cosworth cylinder heads as Arish mentioned and still checked the volume with the engine assembled. On the Porsche the initial volume is adjusted by metal spacer rings below the cylinder skirt base and then fine adjustment by removing metal from the head.
Picture the (sad) day the car returned to Germany with its new owner!

Very interesting! I’m astounded by the technical talent so many of the members here have.
So if you’re milling the pistons to match valve pockets where do you remove metal to match piston weight? I imagine at the rpm these engines turn everything moving internally is matched weight-wise down to a fraction of a gram.
