Hi there
the airplane of a friend of mine now reaches his 50 birthday, its a Cessna 170 (B) registerd in Germany, year of manufacturing was 1954 serial number is 20471, unfortunatly the exact date of manufaturing is got lost.
If you have any information of the cessna in your archive please send me an e-mail. I want to give him these information as a gift.
Thanks a lot in advance for any information!
Gerhard

I don't think that model year 1954 matches with serial number 20471. I would suggest you buy him the 170 book from IC170A, it addresses all the differences in the model years and has lots of other good info as well.Gerhard wrote:Hi there

Gerhard, my information indicates s/n 20471 to be a 1952 model. If it hasn't been altered,a good way to tell if it is a 1952 & earler or a 1953 and later:
1) does the instrument panel have a row of switches along the center of the lower edge that kinda resemble (if you squint your eyes) a set of piano or organ keys?
2) Is the upper cowl hinged in the middle,so that both sides can open all the way up?
If so,it's a 52 or earlier.
I suggest that you buy your frined a membership in The International Cessna 170 Association ($35 US) AND a copy of The 170 Book ($20 US plus $14 shipping to Europe). The membership might be a better gift than just the book,if you don't want to spend that much. If nothing else, get him involved on this website, there's a few pearls of wisdom among all the BS!
