To Forum members:
I need to replace my C-145 engine as the present one is near its TBO. I have considered the STC 180 HP unit, but having considered the issues think I prefer to stick with the same engine I have.
Does anyone have very good experience with a particular shop or source of this engine as either a factory reman or a first class total overhaul to new engine specs? I want a no nonsense replacement where I can depend upon the engine and the work. Please advise, especially for a shop in the Northeast since I am in central New York and prefer not to go too far to get the work done.
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.
Sincerely,
Jack Henion

Replacement/new engine
Six years ago we bought a new engine for our 172 from Penn Yann in NY. The engine has 700 hrs on it and performs flawlessly. When we were looking to replace our 170A engine we again went to Penn Yann. They are very helpful and can at least give you a lot of information.

A friend also had his done by PENN YAN. He is satisfied with his and the power for a 172.

overhaul
There is a guy that is overhauling my friends cont IO 360 swift motor.
He's located in new england area. He is a small shop and likes to work small engines and say's he keeps his volume down so he can focus all his attention on the engine he is overhauling. I have seen some of his specialty work and it's a shame to put a cowl on them. I think the website is http://www.sandhillaviation.com.

Relacement
Jack,
We had our's rebuilt by Mattituck, out on Long Island. It took two months and cost a great deal of $. We spent 3700 for a camshaft, to replace a worn one, had all new Millenium cyclinder put on. It is smooth and we picked up 100pm in climb. There is nothing a nice as a smooth running C145.
