170B Tailwheel Part Needed

Post by 195flyer »

Does anyone have a 170B tailwheel channel part # 0510000-31 or perhaps know where to get one? Univair has these but they want a princely sum for one. I'm hoping that someone in the group might have one collecting dust that I can buy.

Have fun with the two front bolts on assembly, it is possible though with nothing special, just a little hard to get at. Replaced mine a couple of years ago, was cracking in the corners as yours probably is...

Is it possible to weld the cracks?
What type of aluminum is the part made out of?

Air Repair has them. Same part on a L-19 but the part number if not the same as an L-19. Very common to find these cracked.
CAUTION - My forum posts may be worth what you paid for them!

The L-19 IPC actually gives two part numbers for this channel, 0642136 and 0642152, depending on which model of Birddog. George put together a lot of good information concerning this channel here.

TIC170A has one in salvaged condition. It is available only to Members, but the price is right. 8)

An originality nut (mostly) for the right reasons. ;)
