OIL

Post by 170C »

I have used Aeroshell W 100 in my engine with what I would say was success. As I approach my oil/filter change in the next 60 hours I will need to purchase oil locally. Looking at data on Shell's website it appears that they may offer 100; W100 & W100 Plus in addition to their multi variety. Is 100 the straight mineral oil many of us use to break in a new cylinder/engine? Seems the cost of W100 has escalated since I last purchased it. I got a real deal on the last two cases which cost me $3.67 per quart. One quote in Nashville quoted me a price that equated to $8.39 per quart before tax :( Is this in line with what others are paying?

$6.62 at Aircraft Spruce... but I have the advantage of driving by their store occasionally so I pick it up when I'm there.

I pay just over $60 per case of Phillips 15W-50 at a local oil distributor.

I'm not in he market for aviation oil anymore since I no longer have an airplane, but I might suggest that you check your local "Costco" or "Sams Club".
The 'Sams Club"where I shop has a pretty good price on Shell Multi Vis Aviation Oil. I can't remember just what the ptice was, but my airport friends allowed as it was a god deal when I told them about it.

Dick the local SAMs Club locations in the Fort Worth area used to carry Aeroshell w100 at a good price but stopped doing so many yrs ago. Don't know if any do in my area now as it has been 5 + yrs since I have been in SAMs. I don't like paying a fee to be able to shop and then wait in a long line to again pay my money

Airparts, Inc. is where I buy mine from. Can't recall exactly but less than $6/qt. last time I bought W100. I walk in and buy so I have no idea what shipping would be.

Our local EAA chapter worked out a discount with the local supplier (Ramos Oil). I think we got a 15% discount. They were more than willing to work with us for a bulk rate.

Most of my friends have switched to Phillips for price. They all seem well satisfied with the performance of the product.
