Ground Looped Aircraft Purchase

Post by Jimbrace »

Looking for some info on what questions to ask the owner/mechanic selling a 54 170B which was ground looped in 2006. All damage and repairs are logged. I just want to know if there are any specifics that I should look out for.

Thanks

Since I recently had my 170 repaired, my advice is to carefully check the 337's. They should be signed off by an ia not a a&p. The repairs are major alterations. If the repair is inboard of the last two ribs a jig should have been used. Also were new parts used or refurbished used.

There are many very nice 170B's out there with no damage history. If it were me I'd be looking for such. Repaired aircraft could have major issues with alignments in the fuselage or wings, prop strike issues and after purchase is normally when they show up as not flying straight and the like. If it is offered at a lesser price run the other way!! Just saying DO YOUR HOMEWORK !! :D
