Cessna Owner Advisory SEL-05-02 SID
Hi,
I just received the Cessna Owner Advisory SEL-05-02, issuing a mandatory Supplemental Inspection Document (SID). The instructions in the letter direct me to the CessnaSupport.com web site, where I created an account to log in and get the SID, however, new accounts are apparently done manually and so I still have no access. Does anyone else have a copy of this SID and could share it?
Merry Christmas!

If you go on YouTube and in the seach window enter Cessna SID. Look for the video uploaded from Cessna. It explains what to look for on the inspections.

I recommend that you wait and acquire the access, as you have (I believe) until Aug 2014 to comply and things will change. There's already been a revision and there will possibly be more. I'm not sure changes will be reflected on You-tube. The SEL-05-02 which you are correct, is a notice of availability and gives instructions to access technical Cessna information, and what you want is the revision SEL-05-01-R01. I haven't seen the u-tube but I think I've got to sit down and go through it, highlight what inspection are now due based on my aircraft hours and time since the last inspection of the items now requiring additional inspections to see what is due on my plane.Knowing what you need to do is half the battle.

Bruce has placed the document in our mx library
is what you need as well.

I should have said the Cessna video on Youtube will give you a good idea of what they want. It shows areas on the list pertaining to 100 series and others. Hopefully the whole process will not get to complex.(read expensive)
Re: Cessna Owner Advisory SEL-05-02 SID
Mike your You tube comment was valid, I'm just saying there's a bunch of reading to do and I also agree I hope to keep expenses down.

Gentlemen,
Great response from the 170 forum membership; thank you! My mechanic had asked if I had copies of the SID when I sent him an email asking about it, and I have passed on the documents shared here.
Many thanks to all of you, and Merry Christmas!!

Re: Cessna Owner Advisory SEL-05-02 SID
Reading thru the SEL-05-01 and SEL-05-02 it appears that we need to have access to the CAP number documents for each inspection item. I did find the attachment on the web relative to C-180 where the CAP number documents must be specifying times to Inspection. Does anyone have CAP documents for the 170? I have also requested access on CessnaSupport.com and am also waiting.
Thx,
Dan

It took them a week but Customer Care (Cessna) just sent me an email with approval to access their website. There is a link to the SID there and they give you a tel# for questions or additional support.
Re: Cessna Owner Advisory SEL-05-02 SID
When you have gained access go and download from the SID menu; c100SID, all the info is in there. I've downloaded the doc so I'll try to post it.
Again, you don't have to comply until the summer of 2014 but if it were me I'd pick a few ATA's and at least start during your annual especially if your into disassembly during the annual.

Re: Cessna Owner Advisory SEL-05-02 SID
I gained access to the inspection document. While most of it is normal prudent inspection/maintenance, some of it would be very difficult and time consuming to accomplish. How many of us are going to pull the engine mount for a mag particle inspection. How mandatory is this series of inspections?

It isn't for part 91.

Re: Cessna Owner Advisory SEL-05-02 SID
That's what I thought but then I wondered why did Cessna go through all of the trouble. I mean how many 140's and 170's are under part 135?
Re: Cessna Owner Advisory SEL-05-02 SID
Two-part answer (IMO):
1. It's Cessna's response to their legal-department (look busy) and their engineering dept's aging-aircraft concerns.
2. An out-of-production Cessna 337 which crashed after a high-speed, low-level pass and hard pull-up, killing the owner-pilot, his passenger and young daughter, had long-existing wing-spar cracks which were attributed to lax inspections in conjunction with internal wingtip fuel tank mods, which added additional stresses for which the wing had not been originally designed. Cessna cannot easily defend against such matters unless they can demonstrate they've made efforts to warn the public about such risks and provide a method of accomodation of their product for consumer-useage.

Re: Cessna Owner Advisory SEL-05-02 SID
Bingo!
Cessna has amended the service manual inspection requirements, they have come up with a SID document but will they be deemed to be instructions for continued airworthiness by the FAA in the future?
Probably the real question is whether the aircraft operator will think they are required in the future.
