Yep, early 140 or 170 symmetrical gear, can't tell which. Thanks for the picture.
If they had 3 axle holes instead of 4 they could have been heavy 195 gear which were the same vintage.
More comments on posting pictures;
-Un-check "Disable BBCode" in the options tab
-Once the picture file is uploaded to your post, a box opens allowing a caption to be added to the picture if you want one.
-Below the caption is a box that says "Place inline" which will locate the picture and caption into the post wherever you place the cursor, then click on "Place inline".

They just rotate up and out of the way of the water.
Those look like L-19 gear legs, longer than 170, 180, or 185 gear legs with skinny-er ankles.

I would agree with Richard in that the stiffer 180 gear is better for the type of flying that some of us do. the taller stance for prop clearance also helps. The taller stance look is not anything that I personally think is that important. IMO

In Richards picture from the left the first 4 gear are later 170 lady legs. I can not tell the two farthest to the right. In Ryans picture is a set of later early gear. I think they are later gear because of the 2 dimples in them. The earliest gear and 140 gear had a hole drilled through in the middle. The next gear only had a dimple where this hole once was. And then the type with two dimples. I'm sure about the first two types, the third with two dimples I believe to be correct but my memory is fuzzy on them.

The 180/185 gear on a 170 does not look good. At all. They look WRONG!
Unless you happen to own them.
That's the truth.

An Opinion:
Early 170 gear are fine.... but they require better pilot technique for wheel-landings than the later "lady legs" which have a stiffer spring-rate.
Many pilots like the later gear because they have poor technique, and that is also why some pilots like the 180/185 gear also,.... because they have
poor technique or are incapable or unwilling to learn how to operate with them.
The 180/185 gear weighs more than original legs, but they do provide more prop-tip ground-clearance and may be useful on very rough, unimproved fields where prop-damage is to be avoided.
Otherwise, in my opinion, they are ugly hermaphrodites and odd. I would rather have an Isetta.

Installed 180 gear on 13D. I tried to use the shims that I had on there but I noticed that using them didn't even come close to shimming it to the book. Anybody have any shims laying around collecting dust? Doug

Sorry. Yes these are axle shims I am looking for and not the gear to fuselage shims.

Please be aware the gearbox to fuselage shims do have a effect on gear alignment also. If you have a excessive axle to gear leg shims then look at the gearbox to fuselage shims also. These are sometimes called wedges.not much in the manuals about this .
