Re: Sun 'n Fun '10

I'm going to go if the weather and the FAA cooperate. I'm still waiting on my medical back from the FAA. I will probably still go even if I don't get my medical back, I will just have my friend fly with me and he will be PIC.

Re: 7MA2 Cook-Out/Fly-In

How thick is the ice? I looked at the temps up there today and they were just above freezing. Does it stay frozen most of the winter? Brrr, makes me cold just looking at the video, but then I have 6 inches of snow now in Memphis with another 2-3 predicted for today. I'm in PDX right now, hope the ai...

Re: Brake disc / Wheel corrosion

That would be the locally procured paint that Clevland talks about.

Re: Brake disc / Wheel corrosion

You will need to refinish them both to keep future corrosion at bay. The cup portion of the brake disk can be primed and painted with some heat resistant paint, the wheel should be alodined with some brush on alodine if you have sanded the surface finish and taken the suface corrosion off and then z...

Re: Brake disc / Wheel corrosion

From the Clevland manual; AWBCMM0001-7.3/USA Replace any cracked or excessively corroded parts. Small nicks, scratches, or pits may be blended out and polished with fine sandpaper. Treat and repaint per paragraph 4. Brake and Wheel Refinishing. Figure 308 For the brake disk: Inspect brake disc for c...

Re: Brake disc / Wheel corrosion

Is the corrosion on the wheel or the disk? If it is on the wheel you are going to have to determine if it is within limits after you have removed it. If you don't kill it, remove all of it, it will continue to grow and eventually cause failure of the wheel half. The disk will have limits also, but t...

Re: Paper Certificates

George, Isn't the "ENGLISH PROFICIENT" only necessary for international flights. As long as you have a plastic card without it, arn't you still ok as long as you stay in the US, or do you have to get a new one anyway? Harold Correct. This is an ICAO requirement for flight outside the US, ...

Do you have access to the back side? The reason I ask, do you want a blind rivet or a standard?

Re: Superior cylinders

Yes I did miss that, but it prescribes removal for overhaul. If I pull the cylinder for a stuck valve and ream the carbon out of the guide I would not be required to perform the inspections per the AD. Yes I am just like you and every other competent mechanic, I am going to perform a DVI (detailed v...

Re: Superior cylinders

I work on the premise, that if the cyl is removed, no matter who owners the cyl, the AD has to be met. That makes the "rope trick", and "dropping a valve into the cyl".and cleaning the guide a real option before removing a cyl. If these two options won't work then you have no op...

Re: Paper Certificates

Since ya'll started it mine number is 1859, ha ha, oops forgot the last three numbers 1859182  It's strange, I just got my plastic cards and my pilots license had my SSN on it and now it has my A&P number, so all my certificates have the same number on them. I have a friend that got his pla...
