Re: Tow Hook STC SA34CE or SA268CE

He said he's been in contact with the NY ACO and "they're looking." I just went through this with the Bartone Pipe Exhaust STC. Start with the last known ACO that was assigned to the STC. and ask them to check the document ledger for documents. Since the SSA is the holder of the STC call ...

Re: John Benham Exhaust parts list HELP!

John told me he once had a “special” relationship with an FAA Inspector in SAT. I suspect that person eventually retired and subsequent Inspectors were found to be more strict in following increasingly-strict rules. This became quite an issue when he had to enlist Cleo Bickford’s assistance in inst...

Re: John Benham Exhaust parts list HELP!

The instructions are the thinnest of all STCs the FAA has ever seen. Charlie, thanks give me a shout when you get back. Dont forget to bring the Cohibas back for me.

Re: John Benham Exhaust parts list HELP!

Thank you Ron. I have documents that show installation but also do not show a date. This is the problem the FAA has with this. They do not know if it was updated and I am trying to verify it. I would hate to see the FAA revoke this STC. I am trying to work with them. Doug

Re: Scott 3200 Tailwheel Shimmy Adjustment

All tailwheel adjustments are correctly adjusted when the tailwheel is in an unloaded state. The 3200 is a universal tailwheel to fit many different aircraft. The reason for the springs is to correctly handle the load for break out. The 3 of the springs is all that is necessary for the 170 configura...

John Benham Exhaust parts list HELP!

Folks, Anyone have a copy of John Benham Parts List Document number PL-1001-001 Revision C dated March 07,1993 or a later revision for the Benham or Bartone Exhaust extensions STC SA8645SW? I am trying to verify documentation with the FAA and the master paperwork file associated with the STC. Thank ...

Re: C170B MX manual

The Cessna answer is called the Cessna 100 series service manual. In the preface of that document is a statement that the practices contained can be used to maintain Cessna 140 and 170 aircraft. There is also an Illustrated Parts Catalog specific to the Cessna 170. I believe both copies are located ...

Re: flying without door

According to the STC holder of the door removal for the 170, it has some unique limitations. Bank angle restricted to 10 degrees and yaw angle is 15degrees.

Re: Control Yoke Universal Joint Failure

The new ones come with boots because they are greased. They are also stiffer and harder to install. Both work. Trick is do not grease them and leave them exposed for the reasons stated above if you take the boots off. D

Re: Potential 170 owner questions

Big problem is people usually buy the airplane first then join the type club, so they will not benefit from a buyers guide, but an ownership guide would benefit all users IMO. Yes George is correct in assumptions of my post. A new aircraft buyer that is usually frugal will not pay for a pristine exa...

Re: Potential 170 owner questions

... To properly set my own expectations, I'm interested in getting your experiences with annuals (typical duration, cost) should-do STCs (safety stuff first, later performance and usability like tank upgrade and cs prop, what others?), things to watch out for or avoid, etc. A possible answer to mos...

Re: Dynamic Propeller Balancing

Tim is correct. No weight should be attached to a spinner backplate ever. The basic reason is by putting the weight on the backplate you require more weight to do the same job as having it out on the flange. Here are the references regarding propeller balancing. The FAA considers these as acceptable...

Re: Baggage Door Installation

... And yes some of the rivets on the fuselage cutout do not line up with the fuse large rivets . When this happened and some rivets were a half hole out or less I drilled out to the next size up. I ended up getting what I thought was a good deal online on a baggage door and surrounding skin/frame....
