Just did a little research on float kits and I gave you bad info. You have to go to Cessna to get the float kit, but here is the catch. Cessna no longer makes float kits so you have to go through your parts book and look up each part and buy it individually. Now for the real kicker, alot of the part...

I have a friend with an old 7AC Champ that had an exceptionally good heater in it, and would get too hot in the sumer. On them old Champs they only had one heat muff that provided cabin heat and carb heat both, unlike the 170. Well he decided he would unhook his cabin heat hose also. However it dump...

Federal AWB2500A installation drawings

I am in the process of installing a set of AWB 2500A hydraulic wheel skis on a 170B. This ski is list in the TCDS along with drawing 11R549G for installation instructions. Since Wipaire owns Federal now, I called them for the drawing. They told me that when they aquired Federal all of the info they ...

Bela, as I understand it has to do particularly with the 170's control mechanism. Internally it is not as strong as other aircraft that have the yolk lock. This topic has been covered before on the forum and that is how I learned of it. How about it George whats your two cents, and what exactly is t...

I would be a little leary of locking your rudder pedals, this can causes internal damage to the contol mechanism in high winds. It is better to use a gust lock like George described. :) A little word of caution about strap type tiedowns. Be sure to check their load rating, most are not nearly as str...

Kenmore has an STC for the float kit installation. The kit is pretty extensive. I have not installed one myself yet but from what I hear expect to spend about 40 hours on it. Seems like I heard the kit costs about $1500 from Kenmore but I could be wrong. Good luck. Shawn

Gary that is pretty typical for ignition harness. Every one that I have ever installed has been as you discribe. Just a tip, start at your spark plugs and work all the extra slack back towards the mags. Then tie up the extra slack there because that becomes very handy to have when you are changing m...

I have a Borer prop on my 170B with a 145, and on wheels and light I get 98-100 mph. If I am heavy it is closer to 95 mph. I have not experimented with different props on a 170 to know if a 76-51 would give similar performance. However I have on Supercubs and I can tell you there is nothing that wil...

Pete, I just installed a set on a customers plane a couple of months ago. The field approval was no problem to get, but I am in Alaska. Be carefull when ordering the kit to order the kit for a 180. If you order the kit for a 170 you will just get another set of single pucks. Also the cheapest price ...
