Re: areo 2000 skis

I have Aero 2000s on our 170B and they work good here in North Dakota. But, our snow conditions are usually hard packed thanks to the wind. If our wind deposits the snow in Michigan as powder, 2000s may not be enough. Our snow conditions can vary a lot and therefore I would rather have a penet...

ol Jack Frost made a visit last night
Yes, but no bugs :D

I'm not going to try, but I wonder how short this 170B could take off in these 40+mph winds?
5, 10, 20, 50 feet?

Re: First Plane Rides

J 3, 1969 give or take a year.

My grandpa was the owner and pilot who gave me my first ride. :D
The J 3 has been in our family since it was about 4 years old, now owned by my uncle.

Re: Security: Let's ask ourselves....

I didn't suggest shooting him down. I could ask the question this way, How far do we let this go? How many more times does the US let this happen before GA is shut down? If a plane comes in from Mexico and is headed for a densly populated city, how far do you let it go if its just lost? By the time ...

Re: Security: Let's ask ourselves....

Why did they let him come so far into this country?
Why didn't they shoot him down?

Re: Second Skycatcher crash

Cessnas trying to reinvent the wheel  Skycatcher is an octagon.

They should take a c120, lighten it up for the LSA community, give it a few more ponies up front and fuel injection.

The following plane is actually a 170B, not a 179 :?

Re: Vent Tubes

Guys quit looking at the hardware store and send your wife to the fabric store.
Ditto that, The big hardware stores have synthetic felt and the fabric/quilting stores have genuine wool felt.
There is a difference.

Re: Recommended Modifications/Repairs for 170 Owners

Where can I find Item #14?

14. Install an L19 tailwheel tie-down eyebolt (PN 0642105) in lieu of the AN7-22A bolt that holds your tailwheel assy to the main leafspring.

Does anyone have a picture of it on your tailwheel and is it strong enough for towing the 170 into a hangar?

gahorn wrote Except for the hub, my prop is polished. I bought the airplane that way. I would alodine and paint it if I ever removed it, and would not polish it again. Re: Doors

Getting items, like mail or medical supplies, from the plane to the ground is pretty simple. Throw it out. Getting something like mail, for example, from the ground to a plane takes more skill. And much more acurate throwing. I also think the bucket drop was first done by missionaries in area...
