Re: what is this??
I have a polished 170A and use Extreme Simple Green to clean my stains. It also works well to clean the oily belly. It is inexpensive when purchase by the gallon and mixed.

Re: Congratulations to one of our own!
I hope I don’t take too much flack for saying this but I have always thought that the Swift was the best looking plane I have seen. If I had deeper pockets I would have one in a hangar. Unfortunately, at this stage of my life I like having four seats and can’t afford two planes. Last week...

Re: 1 takeoff and 2 landings (video) and some landing discussion
I tend to have the opposite problem. My crosswind or gusty landings feel OK while my calm wind landings tend to result in a small bounce. I have always assumed the wind covers up my poor landing abilities. :? My main problem with calm wind landings is judging the flair. I often flair just a little h...

Re: Bulkhead. Fuselage aft section. 1951 A model
It looks like I give some miss information. I was going through the pile of parts from several annuals ago and it turns out my A&P didn’t manufacture one of the bulkheads as I had remembered but several smaller parts. In addition to the one pictured, he made a similar part that was a little sm...

Re: Bulkhead. Fuselage aft section. 1951 A model
I had the same problem with my 1950 170A. I believe my A&P purchased one and manufactured another – he may have manufactured both but I saw the jig he used for one. He manufactured the new one by first building a wooden form that fit perfectly inside the cracked bulkhead. He then flattened the...

Re: B-17 and 170A
Richard – I used Met-All and then Nuvite. It has actually been about two years since I polished what you see in the photos. I decided to devote all of my polishing time last year to the wings. I got the top and about a quarter of the underside done. I hope to finish the rest of the undersides this...

B-17 and 170A
I thought I would share some pictures I took earlier today. The photos were taken at the Tillamook Air Museum (Oregon) during a visit by a B-17.

Paul,
I traded my FLH Shovelhead for my dad’s polished 170A – plus some cash. He has since purchased a newer Harley with all the money he saved by not having the 170.
Your photo almost looks like it could have been taken in front of my Hangar.

Re: Transponder and Nav Receiver noise.
I had a similar problem with my Narco AT150 transponder causing a buzz in my ValCom. The local avionics shop replaced the board in the AT150 and the problem went away. As I recall it cost me around $150.

Re: Pitot Tube Bug Flap
During the first annual after getting my 170 the A&P removed my bug guard. When I asked him about it he said they cause more problems than they salve.

RC Flying
Just wondering how many of you are into RC flying. When I was a kid my dad and I built and crashed a number of U-control airplanes. At the time, RC was too expensive so we never got into it. As I got older I discovered motorcycles and girls and totally forgot about model airplanes. Then about a year...

Re: yoke freeplay
My mechanic is about to install a new u-joint in my 170. He suggested swapping the left with the right but after looking closely we decided it was better to just replace the left one with a new unit. I didn’t measure my movement but I would guess it is close to one half inch if not more. My right ...

Re: Oregon Coast Trip
I live just west of Portland, Oregon and on a clear day we can see the Pacific Ocean from about 3,500 feet. We joke that it rains in Portland until after the Rose Festival which ends in June – some extend that to July 4th. Looking at my log I flew twice as many times in May than in August this yea...
