As long as the airspeed is not so high that the nose gear touches first, they get away with it. If they are above the speed that puts the front wheel down first, things get exiting! I agree, things can get "exiting" in that situation. YMMV, but I find that, combined with 8.50 tires, an 80...

I know this discussion began on the topic of Millennium cylinders. But valve rotation seems to be germane, so I will mention that ECI's new "Titan" 0200-0300 cylinder assemblies now have a valve rotator feature just like the big boys. Check it out at: http://www.eci2fly.com/Tech_Ref/titan/...

George, Thank you for catching and correcting my mistake concerning TBO (it's 1800 hours not 1600). Also, your point about the relationship between manifold pressure, prop pitch, and efficiency is an important one. When the C145/O300 engine was first introduced, the mfr estimated that it's ability t...

What George says regarding the TCDS is true: Type Certificate Data Sheet NO. E-253 ––covering the Continental C145-2, -2H, -2HP; and 0-300-A, -B, -C, -D, -E engines––specifies maximum continuous allowable power as 2700 rpm (producing 145 hp) Incidentally, for anyone interested, a pdf file of...

Bob,

If you don't mind saying––What did Cessna charge you for the new part? What did Aircraft Specialties charge for the salvaged piece?

Good luck on the repair.

Inspection within wing of 1948 Cessna 170

Curt, IMHO, only your IA can tell you whether he or she believes that the outermost pair of bracing wires needs to be examined during any given annual inspection. Of course, one of the things that makes airplane ownership interesting is the wide variety of knowledgeable opinions: One year your IA mi...

Engine Operator’s Manual Available as Acrobat Document

I recently received a pdf version of Continental’s 24-page booklet Operator’s Manual for Aircraft Engines O-300 and “C” Series . Among other things, the manual contains operating instructions, trouble shooting tips, checklists for daily and 100-hour inspections, and performance curves. If yo...

My big concern, though, is whether the handles interfere with maintenance at that back bulkhead. Can the BAS handles be mounted with structural machine screws and nuts rather than rivets, against the possibility that I'll have to do something serious someday? If I ever get into a hangar of my own, ...

However, such language may convince the other party (but probably not their attorney) that you ...

Doug, I agree with Eric. I've yet to meet a pilot who didn't regret selling a 170. George, I know you are not a lawyer and, as it happens, neither am I. However, from reading the forums, I also know that you are happy to be corrected on that rare occasion when one of your posts is inaccurate. So (de...
