Re: What have you done for your 170 today?
Put the 170 to the back of the hangar, put the Supercub in the front. Between an extremely wet summer and hurricane Irene and a ton of rain the following week and now 6" of snow I think the 170 might be done flying until next spring. Don't want to rut the field up with 600x6 tires on a 2200lb a...

Re: My uncle, super craftsman
Yes George, it's running on mogas in the picture. It will not run on 100LL :D The 2 row engine has a 3 blade prop he made that is 32" in diameter. He has made steam engines and a beautiful scale model of a Civil War cannon. He got a copy of the original drawings from the Smithsonian. He even ma...

My uncle, super craftsman

He has scratch built 2 planes, Great Lakes and a Pitts Special plus restored others. He is totally sel...

Re: Winter prolect, oil leaks and more
No apology needed George, I saw Bruce at Lockhaven and when I mentioned about doing it he said to put the results on here. We (Bruce and I ) thought it would be good to put the info out here for closeure on the push rod glueing thread. I triple checked the torque on all the cylinder nuts and was esp...

Winter prolect, oil leaks and more
For a winter project I pulled the motor out of the 170. Top priority was fixing oil leaks. The project snowballed of course as other things presented themselves. I sent the prop out for overhaul and a repitch of 2" flatter. Sent the alternator out for overhaul and bought a new retainer and the ...

Re: Aviation "Code of Ethics"
I am more than happy to have some stranger drop in my place and visit, as long as they are proficent and safe operating out of grass fields. One day I had the hanger door open and some old man drove in. He got out and was admiring my Super Cub and then told me that when he got discharged from the se...

Re: Imposter!
Flyguy, I am not very good with computers. If you punch enough buttons on that site you will come upon an exhaustive article with pictures of a test on a 150 (METAL TANKS) in which they kept adding measured amounts of water and took pictures showing how much water could be in the tank and still not ...

Re: Imposter!
Could be water in the tanks. go to http://www.sumpthis.com/cessna150andcessna152tanktest You will not believe how much water can be in the tanks and yet you can take a sample out of the tank drain and get pure fuel. Go to main tank test

George, you're worried about air conditioning? I woke up this morning to an inch of new snow! This has been the worst winter/spring I've ever seen. Maybe it's because I'm getting older
