Re: Control Tee Bushing

I noticed in the last reply mention about the adjustment on the tension on his balls. My Aircraft balls are worn out and I would like to replace them. I have been to Cessna but they will not help [also Spruce]. The part no. 0411224 and I need 2 of. So does anybody know where I can procure a new set.

The 180 hp mod and its progress

Since the 180hp lycoming clone [Superior engine] was fitted , some testing couldnt be done due to engine break in and some extra instruments that had to be fitted . We fitted a E.I. fuel flow indicator which proved to be the best thing since Christmas. So airframe preformance and engine proformance ...

Re: Anybody in San Antonio on Thursday 07/26?

San Antonio is a beautiful city, you have the river walk and take a boat ride through the city ,and you must visit the Alamo ,man the history is unbelievable. jump in a cab and ask the cabbie for a tour of the city. the shopping mall near the airport is great. restaurants are abundant in the mall. w...

Re: Performance Flowmatch Cylinders

Oh Boy this is going to get the finger waving and head nodding going. The bores were ground out 20 thou . The pistons /rings were TCM parts and they were delivered with 8130-1 papers. On the paper work it stated they were suitable for Continental o-300 series. plus other engines. They were domed pis...

Re: Performance Flowmatch Cylinders

Six racer, I am inclined to agreed with you,as I increased the compression ratio on my o-300, And around the same rpm it was noted the aircraft would climb quicker and time to 2700 rpm was quicker . We ended putting another prop on with a 56 in pitch which helped also. I have still have the 8hole pr...

Re: Performance Flowmatch Cylinders

I would love to answer your questions with acurate data but due to circunstances beyong my control all of my paper work has been lost [flood] . However relying on memory I am sure that 165 hp was developed at 2700rpm. TCM has a chart that we used that showed all the norminal dimensions of fin length...

Re: Performance Flowmatch Cylinders

Some exhaust sytems are junk. Due to old age and broken baffles . I have seen some tuned exhaust systems return some good economy fuel figures also. People neglict their exhaust systems and allow leaks and cracks to develope. In my view the pancake and the 3 inch muffles are too restricting on the o...

Re: Performance Flowmatch Cylinders

When I had a Continental o-300 in my 170A ,We modified it with 4 inch mufflers and did heaps of work on the cylinder assemblies. The cylinders were cleaned up by port and polishing and the cooling fins cleaned up. They were flowed checked. There was a great difference between cylinders due to differ...

Re: fire on board

Started work on the aircraft at 7.00am this morning. Bottom cowl off and removed the outer shell of the muffler . Inside was the remains of a length of "Chux" a type of paper towel . It had been soaked in white paint and thinners. I walked out to the end of the runway and found another 3 l...

Re: POR 15

Do not use POR 15 on any aircraft part. Firstly the FAA will not like it. We tried to use it once where stones had a impact on the surface of the aircraft. Landing gear legs and leading edges of horzontial Stabs ,tail wheel areas etc. When a stone hits and penerates to the metal [which it will] mois...

Re: Valve guide reamer

I have watched many people over the years attempt some technical jobs after reading about it or hearing how some one did it. There are basic rules to apply when using tools of this nature. For example what to do when the reemer becomes stuck or lodged. do we use a lubricant [cutting fluid] ? At what...

Re: Valve guide reamer

I have just read all the responses and you guys frighten me. Using reemers to remove carbon build up.? Reemers remove metal as they are designed to. Yes if you had a very tight valve clearance metal to metal BUT to remove carbon its best to use the cut [modified bolt] and oil soaked scotchbrite as o...

Re: How fast are the 180hp 170,s

Yes whats stated above seems realistic but when I read 2400rpm at 24 ins and doing 150mph I was a little sceptic . Yes it's a advert but it is very off putting to read wild claims like that. Harry has little more credibility with his STC.
