John, you may want to think of laying down a tarp under the pavers. Packed gravel means very high humidity levels. Another thing you have to look at when factorinng in costs is that most airports will want uniformity; baked enamel steel siding, this colour, with that colour on the roof; post barn de...

Food for thought: If you are fortunate enough to have a strip on your own property, then, sky is the limit, especially if you live in the South. Large, with office space in the mesanine, indoor plumbing and maybe indoor pool... But if you are not and you have a choice between putting up a stick post...

This is what I know of the program that may change your mind a little. You could go back to normal category, BUT, only after the whole plane has been re-inspected by the D.O.T., every single bit, part and parcel of the plane, and new books issued, etc. It is tougher than taking a private use aircraf...

Owner Maintenance Category

Not that I would ever consider doing that with Sally, but some had showed interest in past posts, so here goes: RAA Canada was represented at the January 14, 2003 session of the CARAC meetings in Ottawa. Treasurer Bill Weir and I attended to discuss the proposed amendments to the CARS that deal with...

Russ, yesterday, I flew up to Bromont in the Eastern townships on a very clear -8ºC day; felt like Montana, except you could only see for a week (not 2) at 3500'. We counted over 30 white tails on and around the runway; I digress... A flock of 7 planes landed just before we reached the pattern; guy...

Hey Bruce, Sky Harbour does have one of the best reputations in Central/Eastern Canada. Usually no orange pealing and fabulous workmanship. And if the previous owner's invoice was in Canadian Pesos ($), converted back into US greenbacks, turns out pretty cheap and reason why alot of guys from Northe...

Matt, I owned a '59 straight tail 172 while I was looking for my 170B. I was member of 172-182 type club and found more on 182's than anything. The Cessna Owners Group had alot on 210's, etc... Both groups were helpful if you asked for information on the random style Email-board, but it took a while...

Dave and others not getting any apparent leaks. Are you using Mogas or Avgas? Reason for my question is that if you were leaking Avgas, you might not notice, cause it doesn't stain or smell much. But if you are using Mogas, it would stain and smell. Once in a while in turbulence, with my tanks real ...

Before I got wiser and decided to stay in the planes and fly them, I jumped out of them for many years. A friend of mine, (from Airborne days) very wild and crazy kind of guy, decided to jump out of a C150 that would be piloted by another friend of ours. At this point we had jumped out of pretty muc...

Dave, in the summer, when I donn't need or want the heat, I disconnnect the scat hose at the firewall and tie it to the engine mount, facing down with the help of a tie-wrap. I hate the hot foot you get from it. JD

George, if 20' in the air and lots of runway ahead, land... I hear what you are saying and in theory, I agree. BUT, you have to remember, that even if the trim is set and I always set mine, it all goes back to reflexes and instincts. If we had time to think it over, yes, let go of everything. BUT yo...

Dave, CO gas has no odor. Now and then you can get an "exhaust" smell, I get it now and then when I pull the carb heat at lower RPM's and rich mixture, with the heat on. CO is certainly present with the exhaust gases, but can be there without the smell. CO gets into the bloodstream and tak...
