Flooding procedure
It seems that once a winter, I mess up and flood the engine and can't get it started. Engine is a O-300 A. I had pre-warmed, but probably not enough; was naturally, in a rush... Normally, when it is properly pre-warmed, It starts same as in the summer. When no pre-warming cold starting procedure get...

Bela, Cessna 170 B parts catalogue will show on pages 53 and 54 that there are only 4 leafs for the B model. I first installed all 5 when I first bought the plane. Tight, but went on. Then, I studied the drawings after some discussions on the subject on the old site and it turns out there are only t...

Crickets? At this time of year in MA?? All I get here is the slither of snow snakes... Its been very cold and very windy. I was up with my honey on Saturday; we went up the river about 1/2 hour to a reastaurant. We had 3 other airplanes and 2 ultralights that had promised to come along. Only one oth...

Duct tape works good. To take it off without leaving any trace or paint, take it off when the engine is warm (right after you've landed and parked); it'll come right off, like using heat gun or hair dryer to remove a sticker. If any residue, use WD40. Eric, my '52 has a winter kit and the inboard (t...

That's the direction I want to take. A friend had a 53 C170B with Avcon 180 HP and he had newer 180 doors and hinges. I ferried a 185 last tuesday that had the same kind of latches (roller type) and handle the long imbeded kind. Being that this 185 was coming out of paint, the owner had replaced the...

I only had shimmy for a short while. Turned out the grease I had bought from Aeroshell went to paste. Took me a while to figure it out, I was greasing the axle and kingpin and nothing coming out of the grease gun, opened it up to find paste. Had to take the wheel apart to make certain it was all cle...

You must remember that the Birdog has almost 100 more hosre on the nose; the rudder is effective quicker to help steer. I change my main spring at each annual; overkill, yes, but it has to be thouroughly inspected anyways and only costs $55, I clean, inspect and repack the bearings in the tail wheel...

Bruce, you are right, the biggest advantage of the 3214-T is that it has alot more beef to it and is still made of steel, whereas the 3214 is made of alloy (put a magnet on it). With the 3200-A and the eyebolts, new tail springs and a proper alignment and rebuilt brakes (incl. master cylinders) it t...

Eric, you are right, it is a 3200-A. When I bought my 3200 a couple of years ago, the straight arms kept folding (from tension on the chains); twice in a row. Scott people could not understand and it turned out they did not know that the metal had changed to an alloy, from steel (old one). I did end...
