Camping with your plane
Campers! I have made a lot of camping trips over the years from tents with the kids to the current 5th wheel with the better half. This is the first time going to Oshkosh and camping in the 170. I'm looking to input from all you experienced camping pilots on the little tid-bits of info that works go...

Re: Legality Opinions
Whoa...my eyes are tired after reading that one. My experience is at the other end of the learning curve. I'm 54 and have almost 2 years in the air. I'm fresh from all the reading of FAR/AIM...all in all, I do believe all the rules are written for a reason...safety, not just for me, but for everyone...

axle nut replacement
My 170a #19050 has Cleveland wheels and brakes. I'm wanting to install hub caps for the clean line look. The previous owner had destroyed the wheel pants and the longer axle nuts are still on. For space sake, I need shorter axle nuts to fit under the flat style hub caps. Any suggestions where to buy...

Re: Scott 3200 Tailwheel Shimmy Adjustment
Do the pins come with the shackles or are the pin purchased separatly?
Looks like a good solution.
There is also a good video on youtube about the adjustment of Scott tail wheel springs.

Re: Battery Installation
Thank all of you with your input. After considering all of your 170 wisdom, I went for the one way no one talked about, try and re-condition the battery. Something new to me. The suggestion came from my electrical wiz buddy. After removing the battery, there was a date of 12/07/07...only two years o...

Battery Installation
The 170A's Gill battery went 'kaput' this winter  . Charged it and only got 11.11 v. I'm a new owner. As an owner, am I approved by the official rules and regs or permitted to install a new Gill battery; or is this exchange only for an A&P? If I am permitted, then I assume I would need to m...

Re: New Garmin Portables
I trained with a 396 that had all the weather. Was it used?...no. When it was raining out, the XM indicated it was raining :o . Yes, if I was doing major X-county for an extended time, I would probably get the 396 or 496...but I'm not doing that type of flying. I fly VFR in my 170 and I don't fly at...

Re: Who can remove a door? or a seat?
I thought removal of a rear seat or door change the weight and balance...for flying. If so, doesn't the w&b have to be recalculated by a A&P and entered in the aircraft log?
Just thinking...gets me in trouble at times.

Re: Stall warning failure
I was having the same stall warning failure problem. I did as suggested in the replys. I removed the switch from the wing, disassembled the switch, cleaned all connections, then reassembled. All worked as it should. My wife says I should do that to my office now and then...maybe I would work better!...

Re: Door opening in flight
Referring back to my parts catalog, the assembly for the 170a I was looking at, Ser# 19200 on, is a Thumb Latch with bolt, bracket... The illustration shows the latch on the co-pilot door. I assumed the pilot side would have the same parts if it were illustrated. However, when looking at the door po...

Door opening in flight
Hello all, My Plane...1949 170a #19052 During my last flight, along with an experienced flyer in the co-pilot seat, my pilot door decided to open. A lot of suction to fight don't ya know. In short, this issue popped up 5x's during the 2-hour flight. It kept my co-pilot on his toes. Has anyone had th...
