Re: 2836C's Last Flight
That just breaks my heart. But I know you're hurting much more than most of us can imagine. Know this, your 170 family is sharing the loss with you and stand willing to assist in anyway we can.

No dihedral in the wing of any A model. That is why they got the nickname "Flat wing" From our archives. . . http://www.cessna170.org/info.html " " "Beginning very late in 1948 with SN18730, Cessna began producing the all-metal, slicked-up version with a single strut and a d...

Re: Separate Tail wheel Halves
My tail wheel hasn't had a gasket in 27 yrs. don't remember ever seeing one. Same here Frank. And I've never had the problem of un-mating the wheel halves. George's suggestion on inflating the tire/tube combo (after removing the bolts?) would best be done in some restraint (Longer bolts with nuts?)...

NO NO TO MO GAS says ole gahorn. AN NO MO MMO 2. I bought a C175 that had been sitting on the ramp at El Monte CA for several years. Tires were flat and had made shallow depressions in the pavement. It was late in the evening when I looked at this poor derelict. I sumped the tanks and the gas was r...

Re: Confused re Oil Temp and Pressure gauges
Checking to ensure you have the right one and that it's functioning properly is always a great idea. I'm referring to your mechanic 8O  Some of the reluctance to do what is sensible for both the plane and it's owner is tempered by the (malpractice) liability. Even seasoned AIs have tightened ...

Re: The trip (2015)
Jim, So as a consolation, you will just have to make it next year. Hope the trip home is stress free and your maintenance events will end with as good a bird as when you started. We are having all the fun we can here at Gulf Shores. It is hotter than "bleep" but we will survive. See you ne...

Re: Gone West - Bill Wehner
Bill Wehner, one of the First Aero Squadron Foundation’s (“FASF”) principal founders, and its second President, has ‘gone west,’ in the favored vernacular of his fellow aviators. Bill died last night at his beloved Airpark home in Columbus, New Mexico. His wife Mary was by his side. Bill was Foundin...

Re: Gone West - Bill Wehner
We will miss the humor, the intensity and great love of not only the Cessna 170 but "little' airplanes in general. His contributions and love for our Association and it's members will leave a void that may never be filled. So long Brother Bill.

but none of my plans included turning back towards the airport. He had been airborne for about two minutes so it wasn't a panic 180. And lucky that golf course had room to put it down safely. My first engine failure was night time and occurred as I was climbing through 300' and still within the fir...

Re: Wonderful Generous Folks in Nigeria
Here a while back I got one of those pitiful, heart wrenching e-mails, from Steve Grimsley. He told me he was stranded in some city in Europe and had lost his wallet and pass port and could I send him a $1000.00. So I did and then found out he really hadn't traveled abroad at all. I wanted him to se...

FORDS PT22A.jpg It "was" a safe "off airport" landing but it was, looking at the damage, also a crash landing. Those old Kinner radial engines are long in the tooth and parts are getting harder to come by and it makes me sad to see an old PT crumpled up like that. With an engine...

Re: U-Bolt Failure
- - Sure beats $2000.00 from Cessna. They have little interest in supplying parts - even a two dollar u-bolt for our classic airplanes. That little piece couldn't possibly have cost them over $.50 and they only price it out of reason so they don't have to mess with us. If you had a Citation or a Ca...

FYI  There aint no such animal as a two piece windshield unless you call the plex one part and the strap another, then you'd have to add more for the bolts, nuts and washers, The center strip is there for strengthening the old thinner - - 1/8 or 3/16" plex. The center strap provides...
