Re: Navigation Systems for iPads
I've been working on my CFII for WAY too long now (should finally be taking the checkride in a month or so) but I really enjoy the full size iPad with Foreflight. I use the RAM suction cup with ball mount to the side of the windscreen and no instruments are blocked. Flying from the right seat, the i...

Re: Wheel Covers/Hubcaps
I had this same problem a while ago. The cleveland wheels have pretty shallow threaded holes which only go about 1/2 way through the rim. I de-aired the tired and drilled/tapped the hole deeper. I put in a longer screw that goes in just short of all the way. I never thought I was over-tightening the...

Please keep us updated on what you come up with as my flap linkage is heading in the same direction.

Re: leaning procedures and EGT
I have an EGT probe on cyl #2 only. Typical temp at cruise (7500ft or so) is somewhere around 1350. Peak is typically around 1380. Fuel flow is usually 7.8-8.0 at 2550RPM. Everyone has their own tried and true method for leaning and mixture control. While I can't endorse George's method of not enric...

Re: Recommendations in for C170B Engine and Gear Rigging Exp
No offense Doug but i run 22-23 in my 800x6's and have never noticed a problem on pavement... even after changing from 600x6. I aligned the gear a few years back and that is what made a big difference in ground handling at touch down. No doubt higher pressures would be a bit easier on pavement but I...

Re: Recommendations in for C170B Engine and Gear Rigging Exp
Jim, Welcome to the club! I used to be at FUL (tell Daniel I said hello!) and had the same issues you do before aligning the main gear. Sounds to me like you have a couple issues going on. The main gear MAY need to be aligned, and the tailwheel shimmy needs to be addressed. Both topics have been dis...

Re: Apple IPad Mini review
For those who are concerned with the size of the regular Ipad, I thought I would post some pictures of my set up. As you can see, the Ipad doesn't really cover much of your view except out the side of the windscreen. I normally fly from the right seat so I attach it to the right side of the windscre...

Re: Slipping with Flaps
I'm with Doug that practicing slipping may not be something that we should practice all the time, but it should be something practiced IF your plane can do so. I have lots of time teaching in 172's, 182's and 206's where slipping with flaps is not recommended just as with our B models. But what happ...

Re: Apple IPad Mini review
To answer Bruce's question, I can't see any reason to use the double suction cup. As Arash said, the single cup will darn near pull out the windscreen before it lets go. I have had mine attached without removal for up to at least a month straight and haven't seen any signs of leakage. Although, I'll...

Re: Apple IPad Mini review
For those that fly IFR, I have played with knee mount, yoke mount and suction cup mount to the window. I prefer the window mount by far. The knee mount is great for VFR but is too far away to read approach info. It also requires too much head movement to switch between the panel and the IPad. I find...

Re: Slipping with Flaps
When I read what the last person wrote it sent a cold shiver down my back. However I do have a 180 hp up the front and the Cof G is more forward than a O-300 equiped aircraft. As stated by a number of people in the past every aircraft is different. however I will continue to take Mr Cessna advice. ...

Re: Slipping with Flaps
I have tried slipping with flaps in 170A model and at 5000ft and NO way known will I do that again. It was just me and nearly full tanks of fuel. It was at full flaps and nose up slightly ,the ASI was a shade over 75 kts and I add the ailerons fully to the left and rudder nearly to the full right (...

Well I can't say much that hasn't already been said. Jamie and I met Bruce and Kathy several years ago and have enjoyed there company on several 170 gatherings. We are great friends with some of the family. All I can say is they were wonderful people who will be missed.

Just a regular carnauba paste wax? I've heard other suggestions such as baby oil.. any thoughts? Of course, the almighty WD-40 might be hard to compete with!!gahorn wrote:Wax and WD-40.
