carburetor overhaul, exchange, or repair
We have a fuel leak on the main gasket that splits the carb in half horizontally. The carb is a ms3spa 10-3237 Looks like 3237 has been superseded by 2 dueling part numbers. 10-4439 from george's thread or 10-4895 from spruce. Spruce has repair kits for 400 ish. Would it be easier to just do a swap ...

I just got a hold of the part and will have the 10 degree flaps when annual is complete in a couple of weeks.

Re: High altitude t/o with stock 170
I think I narrowed or clarified my question in the second post to include just distance. Anyway I don't want to get into an argument with George because he will probably win and he is to valuable as my personal online 170 maintenance adviser. I agree completely with jrcubbuilder on the flaps point. ...

Re: High altitude t/o with stock 170
Back to the original question. What gives you the shortest takeoff roll. Answer. 20 degree flaps in my 52 170b. The theoretical engine-failure after takeoff situation when the maximum effort might mean getting back to the airport or not was not part of the discussion. IAS or groundspeed or TAS was n...

Re: High altitude t/o with stock 170
I used runway distance markers. I did 2 takeoffs with flaps up and 2 with 20. I seemed to lift off about 2-300 ft shorter with the flaps 20. The airplane is IFR. I normally lift off in the 40 knot range on my airspeed indicator at gross flaps 20 and somewhere near 45 knots flaps up. When I am light ...

Re: High altitude t/o with stock 170
And now back to the topic
At 4400 ft elevation, 90 degrees, and gross weight the 170 uses less runway when the flaps are at 20 degrees than flaps up. As for obstical clearance.....it didn't matter cause I had to circle anyway to get over the sierra.

I'm on a iPhone and searching is painful. Where or how do I get. The ten degree selector?

Re: High altitude t/o with stock 170
Thanks rob, That is what I was looking for. I wish I had the 10degree flap setting but that is another thread. I have been using flaps at high altitude because I just don't like the feeling of extended takeoff rolls at high speeds. I'd rather get airborne quicker and accel in ground effect and climb...

Re: High altitude t/o with stock 170
I guessed I asked the question wrong. I am very experienced with high airports. I'm not looking for instruction. I am specifically wondering about getting the airplane off the ground quickly. I agree that the plane climbs clean better. What I find is that with one notch of flaps It seems that i get ...

High altitude t/o with stock 170
Wondering what the wisdom is for a stock 170 takeoff at high density altitudes. I know the book says the distance is longer with 1 notch of flaps. I tend to disagree at least for my 5-6k strips around CA. I tend to get the airplane into ground effect and slowly retract the flaps. It seems to get me ...

Re: Proper Replacement Attitude Indicator for Venturi Vacuum
George, I have been looking at the Sigma-Tek Model 5000M-1. I actually ordered it from chief and then they called back and cancelled the order, said they wouldn't have it in stock untill next year? was going to order from Sarisota today. I too am running the double super venturi system. I wanted the...
