Re: Known issues with early gear and double puck clevelands?

Thank you for posting the photos; that's a big help as I'm getting ready to do the same thing very soon. I can't tell from the pictures (for sure), which way do you have the brakes oriented? I have seen double-puck Clevelands mounted both ways: that is, the housing forward of the axle AND some airpl...

Re: propellor color

If you have a Hartzell, I'd recommend against polishing it like the previous owner of my airplane did. The Fuzz handed him a fix-it-ticket so when I bought the airplane the 300 hour total time prop had 100 hours since overhaul. Overhaul was the only way to bring it back into spec--and I also got a n...

Re: Federal Skii Prices

I was in the market for and searched for skis for 2 Alaskan seasons. I wanted to purchase Federal 2500s, but never was able to find a used pair locally. I think I read on skiplane.org that used skis average about $1 per pound of rating. The Federals I did see down in America (the lesser 48) were lis...

Re: How to install a Baggage Door?

Sorry Bruce, I didn't mean REAL work. I meant government work.

Next year I might get that promotion to MNDOT shovel-leaner. :D

Re: How to install a Baggage Door?

It was a mac joke. My mac IS a joke; if you want to do work with it you shut it down and go to a windows machine. ;) The primer in the second photo is self-etching rattle can primer; its actually gray when its not in the shadow of fluorescent lights. I haven't figured out how to etch and prime with ...

Re: V-Brace install help

I had my V-brace installed and field approved about a year ago using Atlee Dodge's 180 information as the basis.

It can be installed without removing the windshield.

Re: lifting a plane

I was finally ridiculed into learning how to post photos. I took these photos last winter while we were installing a float kit on an airplane. They're germane to this conversation. This photo shows what is actually underneath the skin. Using the dimensions provided by minton above, we drilled a smal...

Re: How to install a Baggage Door?

Ok Bruce, you caught me! 1) I was just too lazy to deal with it last night, 2) I didn't want to chance losing what I had already written 3) I can't do windows (because I have a mac!) Haha In any case, here are two examples of baggage door installations using the methods outlined above. Now I also kn...

Re: How to install a Baggage Door?

One year ago I began the installation of a baggage door while at the same time installing a float kit. Since the rear floor had to come out, it seemed reasonable enough. My estimate for the total labor for both projects combined is about 80 hours (2 people at 40 hours each). No, I'm not kidding. The...

I worked with and knew the pilot. He will be missed all over the Dakotas and beyond.

Happy skies and tailwinds, my friend.

This news was distributed through other aviation channels today, I'm glad that folks in the association are quicker than I am to pass along the word! Here is the link for signing up with Cessna Customer Support given at the end of the video. It'll save you from typing. https://support.cessna.com/cus...

Re: Assist Straps

In answer to my own question, JW Duff still had this part, although the price went up to $75 plus shipping. It took a while to find, and was in "salvage" condition, and I'm glad to have it! A little perseverance goes a long ways.

Re: The DOOR STEWARD

I like my original (George, are you listening?) door stops for a simple reason. With Cessna "R" pins installed, I can remove the doors in seconds. This greatly eases the loading of bulky items. Reinstallation is fairly quick and painless as well, keeping in mind to take care of the hinges....

Re: C170B w/180hpCS POH

I don't think this was said above ... the Avcon supplement to the flight manual states something to the effect of "all the numbers in the Cessna book will be as good or better with the Avcon 180hp conversion." That's obviously an understatement, as the 180 horse Avcon gives >20% additional...
