Re: water crossing
A buddy of mine restored an Ercoupe and flew it to Oshkosh. From New York he went out the southern route around Chicago. Feeling pretty good about his xcountry sucess he decided to take the direct route back home over lake Michigan. The weather was good VFR but the sky kinda blended with the lake. He...

Re: What is the Standard Prop for the Cont C-145?
Thats what happens at these big places, the order taker doesn't know a thing about planes. Look in Univairs catalog, both Sensenich and McCauley complete lists are there. McCauley Standard MDM7655, cruise MDM7656, Climb MDM7653. Flange is SAE No3, bolt diameter 3/8 8 bolts weight 32.3lbs If you pref...

Re: Arrg. More Snow in the NE
I got 40+ inches of wet HEAVY snow over 3 days. I had to shovel off the flat roof on 1 of my hangers to be safe, 45ftX60ft, that was worse than a stress test at the doctors. Pretty much plowed everything with my truck but still had to get the tractor out with the bucket to stack higher and carry awa...

Re: Dog lovers
First attempt at pictures, hope these pictures are as heart warming as all the other dog pictures. The dog by my plane (Gingerbug) had to be put down on Labor Day , which was a few days after that picture was taken. Waited 2 months and got the 2 Collie pups. I love them to death but still miss Ginger.

Mark, the crust cutters I've seen are no more than 1 foot long, Aero can figure out the bungee from there.

Re: How to get rid of Rat Stank Smell
You better check out the WHOLE plane very thoughly, it is unbelievable what places mice can get into. A fellow by me has a 170B that he bought in 1968, he never flew it much and he hasn't flown it in the last 20 years. I wanted to buy the plane 20 yrs ago but he would never sell it. Whenever I saw h...

Re: 1952 C170B and Piper Aircraft Corporation Lock Haven PA
As a bonafide Piper Cub/Super Cub fanatic/owner I think I have about every book written about Piper. Piper did purchase and/or rent competitors aircraft to evaluate and compare. None of my books say that they bought a Cessna 170 but they still might have. Quote from the book Cesssna Wings for the Wo...

Re: Bill Frost - Wild West Performer
Hey George, how about using some of your pull and get a 170 convention near HERE, NY. It's tough to attend when they are so far away and I'm a severe clear VFR pilot, plus full time job.

Re: Bolt Kit for a 170
In checking my plane for the correct hardware I see that the correct NAS145 bolts are installed ( IPC figure 13 items #5 and #7 ) however mine are installed what I would consider to be upside down. The bolt heads are on the bottom with the nuts in plain view on top. I cannot tell from the IPC drawin...

Re: Franklin Question
Used to fly a factory brand new Maule with the 220 Franklin in the early 70's. Always had a mag drop like that. Maybe it was because the Franklin got 220 hp out of 350 c.i. Sort of "hot rodded up" if you will compared to the Lyc. and Cont. Also if I remember correctly it had a compression ...

Re: Mogas and a "no fly" winter
I know everybody wants to be safe and I don't want to sound like I'm a careless person. I have used car gas exclusively for 30+ years without ANY problem what so ever. I am still getting alcohol free car gas now. I buy it in bulk and sometimes it has taken me more than a year to use it up before get...

Re: Towing a 170 on main wheels
No problem. I towed a Waco UPF-7 a little over 100 miles. Just make sure the wheel bearings are good and freshly repacked and the tires and tubes are good. I wouldn't do 70 mph for hours on end though. Just stop and check the temperature of the wheel every once in a while.

tanks feeding evenly
My 55B has the vented caps on both fuel tanks. I am used to one tank feeding a little more than the other when both are selected, (which is where I leave the selector all the time) However, yesterday flying around I noticed the right tank showing empty in flight and the left tank showing slightly le...
