It seems that every time a new leader of the FAA starts his or her new job, they always say they're going to fix the system that delays everything.
They don't seem to be able to accept that a full "IN BOX" is job security.

Re: Portable Tie Downs
While we're discussing tie downs, I'd like to mention that I consider it prudent to carry a set of ropes to use between the steel chains, found at many airports. and the airplane. When connected to the airplane, the steel chains alone almost always will end up with some slack, When a gusty wind move...

I was well satisfied with the Millennium cylinders when I overhauled my O-300.

The smooth success of this project, as planned, sounds too jiffy to me.

Re: 170 Market BUZZ
In my professional (That is Non Humble) opinion the Doyn Convedrsion using the Lycoming O-340 engine is about as valuable as a one pint pitcher of warm spit. It was WAY too much work and expenxe for a twenty horse power gain over the stock Continental O-300. I've flown them and the difference is in ...

Re: Carb Fuel Line Question
I have found that quite a few straight C-170 airplanes (Ragwings) are operating successfully without a fuel pump although a fuel pump is actually required to be completely legal. The fact that the required fuel pump is an automotive type operating off of a lobe on the camshaft, it is a damn site mor...

Re: Oil cap "DET"?
Det ? ? ? ? " Detergeant " maybe ???
I can remember that when detergeant oils first came on the market it was not recommended to install them in high time engines inasmuch as they might shake loose too much accumulated stuff and cause the start of high oil consumption.

The knife shown above by Bruce is also a valuable tool to own if you're into hand picking grapes when you're going to be making wine, or if you're just into a little extra farm labor income.

You will never know the difference between the two heat ranges unless you're having plug fouling problems.

Re: 0-300 Cylinders
Gary,
I don't believe that I've ever heard of an "O-330E" engine. Do you have any idea whay airplane it was ever used on?
I think the last model of the GO-300 engine had pad and a governor for the CS Prop. as used on the last model of the Cessna C-175.

Re: replacing aft upper skin on fuselage
Without a jig, I would be rather reluctant to pull off much skin. I don't think I'd want to depend on the rest of the skins to hold the necessary rigidity to maintain proper aerodynamic shape.

Re: Parts Officially Obsoleted ?
TCM is apparently still making cylinders since they're also common with other models of TCM engines. They supply a new crankshaft by using a plugged off TCM IO-360 crank. Pretty pricey!
