Re: EGT
no limits or required markings on an EGT gauge, and in fact for these engines it makes no difference what the markings mean, just guides. generally I have our gauges checked to verify scale accuracy, meaning that each mark is about 25 deg. so you know what the scale means. then just go to peak, rich...

Re: Our 1956 Cessna 170 photo documentation
oh yeah Bruce, I hear you. I don't even have the right kind of airplane but I figured I'd chip in what I could to the knowledge base. Just happened to have the logs sitting here as I'm in the midst of the annual, so I didn't have to go far to look it up.

Re: Our 1956 Cessna 170 photo documentation
my 172 sn 29406 left the factory on 10/7/1956 with apparently NO venturis (none listed on the original equipment list), as one venturi on each side was added when gyro instruments were installed by 337 on 4/22/1957. I think it really depended upon what it was ordered with. This airplane was a factor...

Re: Purchasing an air park home!!!
I pretty much live at work, so my hangar is just down the ramp a bit. I keep my camper in there too, so I guess you could consider it kind of like an airpark setup.

Re: 0-300 Overhaul Facility
sorry but I can't speak to which shop is a good facility for O-300 engines. I'll probably do my own when the time comes. to add to the previous conversation though, back when I did all the overhauls for our company I would send all my cases to Nickson's and they always did a standout job on those. I...

Re: N number size requirements
ah but then you'd get the prop out of sync with itself as the faster blade catches up to the slow one, and you'd have a C170 that sounded like a twin with un-synced props (wa-wa-wa)

Re: N number size requirements
no, they don't need to be painted. All single engine Cessnas come from the factory with vinyl N#'s (we're a dealer so I just walked out to the ramp to make sure I wasn't mis-remembering it). They don't just peel off, it isn't like using duct tape. We also just brought back a bunch of King Airs from ...

listened to a talk by a Phillps rep while renewing my IA this week, they sell an anti-rust storage oil also. http://www.phillips66aviation.com/products/antirust_oil_20-50.aspx he recommended adding 10% of this stuff to your regular oil for storage or infrequent use during periods of up to 3 months, ...

Re: Alternator Question
turn it on and off when there's no load, even though I think the normal coupling for these installations isn't the "elastomeric" type that is supposed to break loose to prevent gear damage in case of an alternator seizing. Our company has several Senecas with alternators with that type cou...

time for overhaul, or your filter is really dirty. but the cheap easy thing isn't usually what fixes a problem.
