Re: SPOT placement
Yeah I just keep mine in the right hand corner of the windshield on top of the panel. One thing to keep in mind is it needs to be 12 inches away from other GPS devices.

Re: High altitude t/o with stock 170
Thanks rob, That is what I was looking for. I wish I had the 10degree flap setting but that is another thread. I have been using flaps at high altitude because I just don't like the feeling of extended takeoff rolls at high speeds. I'd rather get airborne quicker and accel in ground effect and clim...

Re: High altitude t/o with stock 170
It has been alluded to but to be clear not all 170B models have a 20 degree flap indent allowing the flaps to be set at 20 degrees. I understand that not all 170's have the 10 degree flap setting, that's why I clarified by stating "(10 or 20 degrees)". If I remember correctly the 10 degre...

Re: High altitude t/o with stock 170
Buzzlatka as you might know I used to live in Cheyenne where the field elevation is over 6000ft and the density altitude was pretty much always higher when I went flying, unless it was below about 37degrees F. I found that the plane will get off the ground quicker with one or two notches of flaps(10...

Re: First Plane
The back seat was out when I bought the plane, I didn't want to put it back in anyways because I don't feel like taking more than one passenger at a time. I also want the extra room for camping gear in the summer. I don't know how much difference it makes for takeoff and climb but with a home field ...

Re: First Plane
A re-paint is in the future, I had white and red in the original 53' trim in mind. If you can prove green is faster I might change my mindBruce Fenstermacher wrote:And you didn't succumb to needing a red airplane so at least we know you learned something with all the reading you've done.
Welcome.

Re: First Plane
I'll use this to introduce myself. I've been hanging around this site for quite a while now. I've never posted anything but I do a lot of reading to soak up as much knowledge as I can. I just bought my first plane back in October at the age of 25, It's a 53' 170B. I flew it from Vancouver Wa back to...
