Re: ELT Upgrade..?? ...or Not...??
George, this is my story about ELT's. about 5 years ago i had the misfortune of landing my 170 in about 3 ft of overflow on a mountain top about 45 min from home. Yes it went over on it's back with the ELT antenna buried under the plane. I crawled out, standing there looking what I had done, thought...

Re: Seat replacements for my rear bench in a C170-B?
Jim thats exactly the story, we got another 3 ft in the last dump. there is now 5ft of accumulation on my hanger road. I will try to dig out the snowmobile tomorrow and get some pictures. Road maintenance contractor says access to town maybe tomorrow. Hydro came out on snow cats to repair the line s...

Re: Seat replacements for my rear bench in a C170-B?
Dogone, I haven’t been to my hanger for about a week because of the snow. 3 Kms of snow has to be plowed. If it lets up this week end I will dig out the snowmobile and get some pics. I never took any when I was building it, but it was easy to fabricate if you are handy welding.

Re: Seat replacements for my rear bench in a C170-B?
I found over the years that only one rear seat was used, so I found a trashed rear seat and cut it in half. The material you cut off is used in the fabrication and it bolts in using the existing bolt locations. The bolt that would normally go to the side that was cut off is placed into an existing 1...

Re: Aviation Weather Forecasts
The only problem with Windy is it doesn't forecast freezing ground fog. landed in some last week, didn't look bad from the air, but picked up about 1/2 inch of ice on landing, with most of it taxing off the runway with no forward visibility, lucky there was no go around, Great weather forecas...

Re: Distractions, don't let them distract you
Richard, I have a gas cap in my hanger that my Brother found when hunting up on the Stewart Cassiar . Still had the key in it with the flag that says remove before flight. I have had a lot of pilots look at it and am unable to figure out what type of aircraft it was from. It had been under the fores...

Re: One Landing Light or two?
George, I agree with you on the led replacement landing lites. I do not do nite ops anymore and find the led lites with the goodie flasher for collision avoidance to be very cost and safety effective. The Chinese gentleman that asked me what I was using the led lites for was very interested when I t...

Re: Float Kit drawings
Depending on the model, I sent a copy of my float kit install drawing that I received from Cessna to the association via G. Horn .The only snag was that the drawings where specific to my serial number, 1955 170b. Check with the association, as I thought I still had a copy around here, but am unable t...

Re: Installed 180 Landing Gear
You say you have 185 gear legs? So they would be .750 of an inch thick? how do you find them for the type of flying you do? The reason I am asking is because I have a brand new set of 185 gear legs sitting in the hangar and was thinking of putting them on. I do like the 180 gear that I presently hav...

Re: skis on
One year is not bad, I fiddled around for about 4 years getting mine approved for the 170. between the owner of the company , his lack of operating capital, etc. I finally got a one time STC for my 170B 180hp. with a lot of help from Transport Canada. He has since sold Kelher Ski to PK floats out in...

Re: Installed 180 Landing Gear
I would agree with Richard in that the stiffer 180 gear is better for the type of flying that some of us do. the taller stance for prop clearance also helps. The taller stance look is not anything that I personally think is that important. IMO

Re: Installed 180 Landing Gear
Good point about them maybe being L-19 gear, I have never paid much attention to l-19 gear as I so rarely ever see one.
