Hey Joe- Tell that guy you know anytime he wants to have some company to go flying with him, give me a call. I'll do that tonight Richard - THANKS! Although, at the moment I am still laughing pretty hard at your response to the geometry fuel cap issues in the Hangar. Bet Frank would pass me in Ol P...

When I was 11, in 1950, Dad and I went to Wichitaw to pick up his new 170. He flew it until 1976, when he couldn't pass his physical any more. It sat until 1985, when He decided to sell it. I couldn't let it go, it had been in the family too long. I sold my Cherokee and bought the 170 from him. He ...

You are welcome, I didn't know it either, and like many people I have seen, enjoyed twisting the gear and feeling the impulse coupling wind up, etc. I don't do it anymore, and don't hand a mag to somebody who might do that. That least path of resistance stuff apparently can really cause some damage ...

Check out Bendix Service Bulletin No. 556C concerning Sintered Iron vs Machined Steel bushings. Teledyne Continental Service Bulletin SB643 outlines Maintenance Intervals for those uninformed, it is 500 hours on the mags. The main reason that I posted this is because a very good friend just spent we...

Re: Missing the mark
While I appreciate all the input, and will overlook all the trash talk about swept tails and such, the main gear is not the problem. The aircraft tracks very well on the ground, once there. The problem I am having is directional control on the ground at relatively low taxi speeds. I fear it may be ...

As I see it, the principal problem in tailwheeling a Cessna with a swept tail is the god awful looking airplane you end up with. When Frank lands in his 56 172TD, people start coming towards it, and admiring it. It really draws a crowd. The 172TD swept tail that use to be parked in the junk airplan...

>> Seriously, if I could pick up 10 knots with faired gear legs and pants, I think that would be a worthwhile investment. the aircraft I'm looking at all have the 0-360 conversion, and the claimed cruise speed is between 135 and 145 MPH. I won't consider a plane that doesn't have that kind of perfo...

Re: Which do you prefer 170 / 170A / 170B
So, I thought that I'ld ask the question of those who own these planes if they wish they had a different model and why? . Thanks, Greg Oh yea, that's gonna happen...especially on this board in this company 8O  Ask any of us wich is the best model and we will invariably answer the one that we ...

My first IA for the 170 moved to the East coast after the second annual. Since then, I have had the same inspector who has arthritis, which makes it difficult for him to write. I had noticed that in previous annual entries in the log books, labels had been used by some of the different inpectors ove...
