Re: My rudder has a lot more travel to the left
My humble opinion is that the 170 has more than enough rudder. I said a while back that it’s the same rudder as a 190/ 195 with less H.P., but was corrected that it’s actually bigger as the 170 doesn’t have the tail “stinger” that those aircraft have.

Re: Got some history on my bird
When our airplanes were built, I don’t think they had Recording Tachometers, so every flight had to be logged to record aircraft Total Time, TSMOH, etc.cessna170bdriver wrote:Evidently at one point in time every flight was entered in the maintenance logbooks, and the first three lines of this page are quite interesting

Same cockpit as 172s. If you fit in one of those you’ll fit in this.
Just not look as cool.

I wonder if that engine will fit in the factory cowling without blisters.

Re: AOPA Sweepstakes aircraft: Cessna 170B
I find the rudder very effective. Considering it’s the same one on C-190/ 195s, of considerably more horsepower, perhaps it’s a little too much. I note that the -170C was to have had a smaller one. When introducing stalls to Student Pilots, I have demonstrated that while holding it in a stall, it is...

In the Members Only Section of the Forum is the MX Library, which contains photos documenting as close to original aircraft as can be found. There is also info on exterior/ interior colors for the various years.

Re: The future of 170's
While the Cessna Engineers in 1948 likely didn’t plan on these airplanes still flying 70 yrs. later, they did design and build quality products, as was the norm back then. No real design life limit was built in, like many products today. The steel Swingline Stapler that sat on my teacher’s desk in 1...

Do you have a different headset/ microphone you could try?
Does your aircraft have an Audio Control Panel, and if so, was it configured correctly (listening and transmitting on same radio)? This sometimes happens, to the best pilots…

The 99s have a program where they paint Compass Roses at different airports. http://www.alabama99s.org/?p=707 I see that the L.A. Chapter has been active doing that.

Re: What did you buy for your 170 today?
This is very very nice. Great work. I am planning a very similar thing. May I ask you Jim, those three 275's, are they locked to their respective primary function? I mean, you are not able to use any of them as MFD and view moving map, traffic, weather etc? Was there anything that was particularly ...

Re: Leaking Compass
It is not legal for owners to repair the compass. It is <supposedly> not legal for an A&P to repair them either- only an Instrument Shop. Having said that, Aircraft Spruce sells several repair kits which you might purchase to investigate what parts the Instrument Repair Shop would install, inclu...

Re: Cylinder for C-145 (O-300)
Two Annuals ago my #4 Cylinder was right on the edge for my IA to sign it off. Leaking by Exhaust Valve. I told him to send it in. One new Valve Guide and Seat. Last Annual it was leaking by Exhaust Valve again. Repaired under warranty but I had to pay for R&R. I notice now when I first start it...
